Any Pelicans in the Asheville - Gatlinburg region?
I want to buy a home somewhere between these 2 cities but not in them.
I am also open to anywhere along the east side of the Smokey Mountain Park, down through Cherokee and to Robinsville. I am looking for a realtor. If anyone is one or knows on ein this area PM me.

I have spent several weeks of late in an area called Burnsville, NC. Very quiet, View of Mt Mitchell, couple of miles from the parkway. Not sure what you are looking for but there is actually a real estate office in the Mt Mitchell golf course pro shop. Another just down the road. I have my eyes on a place there now. The quiet will just amaze you.

I second Burnsville...or maybe Waynesville. I lived in Sylva once, but it is just a little too fsmall and too far from the (bigger) city for me.
Weaverville (just outside Asheville) is pretty nice, but a little more pricey....closer in though. It has a pretty (mountain) golf course too. I have a house in West Asheville myself.

I imagine so, it was long ago...but I passed though a couple years ago....it was still pretty small IMHO and had moved no closer to the Asheville.
Depends on what one is looking for though. I enjoyed it when I was there.

Yes, the housing costs have really grown in Asheville...big demand from folks relocating from FL and the NE (bringing equity from much hotter home markets). All the same, moderate housing is still relatively inexpensive...and that is quite a commute if you travelled to Asheville very often.
I bought my house there long before the price increases.

I do not want to be in a big city. Although I do not want to have to drive for an hour just to buy some milk. This is going to be a vacation home / possible vacation rental even thought the vacation rental idea is not a priority. Are there still dry counties in NC? I remember some friends of mine going up there about 15 years ago to visit realatives and ending up in a dry county. They had to drive over an hour to buy some beer. Thanks for the tips. Here are some of the towns we found potential houses in: Newport, TN Otto, NC Hendersonville, NC I will be in the area Oct. 13-15 to take a look around. Thanks for the info you provided via PM Procon.

Personally I would try to buy within driving distance of Asheville. They have all the shopping, restraurants, entertainment you would want...but still not a "big city atmosphere. They also have a thriving tourist/home rental and resale market..as well as good appreciation. You shoud be able to find something in your price range. Hendersonville would be a goood choice..as would Black Mountain, Weaverville, etc. Good luck.

Give these people a call. They can fax current listings. They also handle property rentals in the community there. Very well done and low key as well. Burnsville like so many other small communities in the area has all that you would need. About 20 minutes up the parkway there is a town that has a super Walmart and such. It is just over an hour to Asheville.
You have chosen a great time to visit. http://www.mountmitchellgolfresort.com/realty.htm
