Printer question...HP All in one.

GoddamnedHP POS printer is either going south or the printer cartridges are now re-designed for one use.....FUCHME....

Seems that I can't refill my black cartridges anymore....and when I try to do so, the machine flashes an error message saying I have the wrong one.....plus the print speed has really slowed down the last month or two.

So....what's a better scanner/printer/fax machine than the HP Office Jet with economical printer cartridges, that can be refillable and the machine will last longer than a year? I don't do a LOT of printing but like a good crisp color print when I do a snap shot print out.

May be tough finding. Many are chipping the cartridge to disable after one use. I have seen work around techniques....let me check....

I have a couple of Epson all-in-ones at home and in the shop. After about 2 yrs, both still work well (models are CX520 & CX540 I think).

I chose the Epson after years of using HP's due to the fact that the Epsons use 3 seperate color cartridges and 1 large black one. I generally only use the black, but I thought the seperate color cartridges might have some merit. I have replaced the black cartridges one time each and all the colors in the house once (my kids waste color more than I do!). I love being able to scan a picture or make copies using my printer. I would buy another for sure!

I will never buy another HP product! I was having problems with my printer (all in one) so went to their website for help. Could find nothing to solve my problems and after some investigative work I found an 800 help number. I called and got some Indian chick on the other end (no, not Ya-Tah-Hey), Should told me I needed to find some serial number on my computer for her to begin to help me. I found several numbers but not the one she wanted. "Hang on a second, I'll find it" I told her. She said "If you can't find the number I cannot help you" - Click! "Hello, hello"
She hung up on me, I was pissed!
Needless to say, HP lost a customer that day.

OK, apparently HP, Epson and Lexmark use smart chips that expire wether the cartridge is empty or not. There's a $20 rest tool for Epson and some hacks for HP. Also looks like customers are going to Canon to avoid the headache and expense. Apparently there is a class action lawsuit against the chippers.

Cutting to the chase, here's the workaround for what appears to be the HP all-in-1.... bottom of page http://www.land.netonecom.net/tlp/ref/letters/hpPrinters.php

Rick - of course, using those tools, may earn you some Fed Jail time for violating the DMCA...

I think disconnecting the battery for memory is worth a try.

BTDT....

BTW, I would uninstall and then fully reinstall the latest print driver. This may address your speed problem. I've had to do it several times for my printers.
