Glider or Airplane?

Part-1
Glider or Airplane?

I know the answer to the question, because I had to ask someone out at the airfield for the answer.

Part-2
What qualifications do you need to fly this thing?

A: Single engine pilots license.

B: Glider Pilot certification/license.

Give it your best shot, you could get lucky.

Last two pictures are just for fun, not part of the question.

You would have to have both types if you intend to turn the motor off. Only need a glider license if you get up by aerotow.

Now that's exactly what I thought!

I was wrong, as you are wrong - sorry.

Hint: Engine/tractor propeller is up front - no way to attach a tow line.

Let's see if the hint also changes your mind about the operator.

No, but I don't have the full story of the experimental sticker either. Could be more to the story than I was told.

Keep guessing guys.

Note-1: The soaring club picked it up for $15,000, that's the cost of an SC - not bad.

Note-2: The Lark Romanian/Hungarian (can never keep those two straight) I rode in last year is out for the season. It took a landing a little too hard and bent the landing gear. They have other two seaters, but there is nothing like your first.

Is it falling into the Ultralight category? Then no license is needed unless the law has changed since I worked at a small airfield.

*edit* It has an "N" number so its registered as an aircraft.

The FAA deems it an a Glider.

N- Numbers tell all.

Guess that's not cheating......that's how I would normaly find things.

Airworthiness..........Classification Experimental

That answers the part which came up.

Part-1:
Glider

Part-2:
A & B: You need to be certified as a glider pilot to fly this thing. You can not fly it with a regular/single engine license.

Part-3:
The glider takes off under it's own power - it can not be towed for launch. You can cut the engine once you are way up there for extra flight time/save gas. However you can cruise a distance with the engine on to find the thermal you want, being selective about it.

I don't think that's geared. I believe that's the starter gear and the aviation equivalent of a flex plate

Looks like the starter gear to me, lighting angle was not helping me just then.
