Stupid car wax question

How long should it take to dry?

White car...white wax....

I can't tell if its totally hazed over yet.

More than 30 min. on a cool dry day?

30 minutes is way more than enough. What kind of wax are you using?

I did my wrx yesterday with Zymol and tried a coupole of diffrent techniques.

Autoglym is the best. Expensive, but unbelievable especially if you use the Wax and then follow up with the Super Resin. Its so slick that when I threw the car cover on the Aston Martin it skated off the other side.

Theres a lot of hocus pocus talked about car waxes, after years of using Autoglym and Turtle wax I was convinced by BS marketing that a ZYmol kit was what was needed. 250 quid later I had a black plastic breif case with some sponges and waxes. It had its chance and is still in the garage.
Then I found Meguaires.
NXT polish. Preceded by the clay bar to remove surface oxidation, tree sap etc.
A duster slides off the bonnet and it looks like a new car (its 1997) and it takes no more than 2 to 3 hours.
Total cost less than 25 quid. Including new dusters.
Zymol is marketing over substance for the price of a pair of rear tyres.
Figure it out.

I have some of that spray NXT wax waiting to be used on my Tiburon. Maybe Thursday before my road trip to Virginia, I'll have time to clay bar and then wax her.

... That depends on how fast the dealer can fix my passenger door handle... which broke off on Friday... hehehe

A clay bar is kinda like a very very very mild abrasive. It is literally a bar of clay. You use water and/or some mix of stuff as a lubricant, and rub it on your car. It removes oxidization and small embedded particles.

Interesting. My car is white, and I have....not sure what to call it....discoloration in some places, like under the mirrors. It almost looks like stains of some kind. Its not noticable from 5 feet. I guess I'll give it a try....

Do you have an Alpine White car? These seem to get stains under the antenna mount, the mirrors, from rubber spoilers, and rubber bumperettes.

You know what works great? Meguire's Quik Wax. You just spray it on and the stains wipe right off.

I just tried the clay bar for the first time last weekend. Used it on my truck after washing it (2003, F-350, Metalic Gray). When I rubbed my hand over the hood & top, it felt fairly rough and uneven, although it looked OK. The clay treatment amazed me. One swipe of the clay & the paint was pretty much glassy. The bar came as a kit (Meguires, I think) with a bottle of detailing spray. The bar itself was about half the size of a bar of soap, but it did a great job on the finish. I had no idea that all the roughness was junk on my paint. Over time, I'm going to use wax remover & claybar sections of it before waxing it (with 3M Perfect It).

I just did this yesterday. I think any clay bar will work. I used car wash soap and water as a lubricant. It takes about 5-10 minutes for the entire car. Surface comes out nice and smooth, ready for wax.

If you have stains in the paint, it might take something a little more agressive to remove it, but try the clay bar first.

ahh, I just noticed.. white car... My Tiburon is Alpine White... yeah, waxing can be a PITA because it's hard to see the haze. I have to get real low over the surface and look at the light reflection to be able to see the haze. It's a little tricky, but it works.
