Lets tame the Dragon
I'm trying to get a funrun togeather to go run thre dragon or the proper name of Deals gap. 318 turns in a 11 mile stretch. I have selected either the weekend of the 5 or the 19th of november. I chose those dates because it is the only weekends that the wife and I are both free. Who wants to go?
I am trying to put togeather a fun run not a push your car and self past the limits. I wish not to run with the line crossers. |
I have a DE on the 19th but will do my best to try to make it for the 5th if it happens then.
Otherwise I am very game for an early spring run before it warms up and the bikes come out. |
I'm interested (but can't commit yet), so I'm subscribing to this thread....
|
so far the 5th looks like it's winning the race although Porsche Doc sais it is gonna be poo-poo traffic. I'll call a friend in moresville and get him to run over and scope it out for us
|
Bear in mind that weekends can be quite busy on the dragon. Weekends are especially popular with the squids. I've run the gap beaucoup times and mid week is the least crowded. Just an FYI.
|
So, what's the current status on this event?? Nov 5th is coming up quick, so plans need to be finalized.
|
Where exactly is it?

Here's a good site:

If you don't know, then you're too far away! (JK)
"The Dragon" and "Tail of the Dragon" are just names for Deal's Gap. Deal's Gap (or Deal's Pass) is located along Hwy 28 / 129 at the NC & TN border. The Dragon is considered by many as one of the world's best motorcycling and sports car roads. MSN map HERE Tail of the Dragon website Deal's Gap website with interactive maps. I generally start my trip in Walhalla, SC and drive up 28. Partly because Walhalla is where my parents live, but partly because 28 is twisty and scenic the whole way and makes a nice trip. My trip takes me past a pre-civil war railroad tunnel, through many scenic towns such as Highlands, NC, past the Cherokee Indian Reservation (and a Harrah's Casino), and near to Fontana Village (and the tallest dam east of the Rockies!) If you enjoy history, this is a trip to be taken time and time again! If you just enjoy driving your Porsche on twisties, then this is a trip to be taken time and time again! |
Someone take a pic of the "tree of shame" and the various car/bike parts that have been donated to it...

The TREE.

Well I kind of dropped the ball for reasons of leaves and a slight lack of intrest. Was giving some serious thought to planing a spring run when we all have some more time to prep. I will do the dragon or be done by the dragon next year. I'm getting to damn old to let these opertunities slip by
|
I'm in SW OH, so its just far enough to make a good weekend of it. I could make early spring, now is tough but possibly doable.
|
I'm only two hours away, so as soon as somebody says "Dra..." I will uncover the Porsche and be on my way!
|
I am in the process of buying a summer house near Procon and that in minutes from the Dragon. Wahoo!!
I am sure I could sprint up there from Florida for a spring run. I cannot wait to get my P-car up there to tear up some asphalt. |
Now this makes it really tempting for me to move back to Virginia...
