Carbon fiber experts? (Thom?)
A question for you carbon experts:
I have a carbon fiber piece that is losing it's luster (becoming weathered). Can I just spray some clearcoat over it to restore the finish? I'm afraid to try. And what about unfinished carbon fiber parts? Would clear coating them work? I have my eye on some unfinished parts that are advertised as "perfect for painting." Thanks.

You could use a clear coat or a clear gelcoat, depending on how it was originally finished. A good clearcoat is probably the better choice, as you can then color sand it to a nice glossy finish.

I believe that UV light degrades carbon fiber over time... So unfortuantely it must be painted to last. This may have changed since I worked around it years back...
