This forum is out of control

And it's embarassing.
I have been suprised to see threads on other car forums discussing the problems on the PPBBS. I never thought I would read "Pelican Parts" and "jerks/A-holes/snobs/petty bickering" used in the same sentence.

I'm not here to change the world. And frankly, I don't care if you "flame" me for speaking my mind.

This used to be a really cool place where "most" people respected each other, their opinions (however odd or extreme), and knew when it was best to keep their fingers off the keyboard.

We used to joke and laugh at the ClubSi boards. Now boards are making fun of this one for the same sort of stuff.
It just makes me sad.

Hey Lee, have you shot pool lately?

Rot 911 10-12-2005 06:02 PM

Lee you just haven't been in OT in a while. Yes it is more raucous, but the same people who are attacking each other for their political beliefs are the same ones there to help each other out with their problems, commiserate with them, etc.

COLDBASS 10-12-2005 06:10 PM

Well, I agree with what you are saying Leland. However, these folks are very passionate about their views on just about everything. Full spectrum here, the problem is when folks cant deliver the arguement and step out. One does not have to resort to name calling but it happens...

Doesnt help that there are a few here that simply like to stir it up then step back and laugh...really lame...I simply avoid political threads...there is good camraderie tho' so we cant be all bad....
Stay positive, like Kris said, "Dont let the bastards get you down..."

pwd72s 10-12-2005 06:11 PM

Leland, I wasn't trying to be overly flip...but IMHO, all this sniping began during the latest Presidential campaign. Silly me...I thought it would end once the election did. Not to be...now I'm hoping it will end when Hillary! is your commander in chief. You see, people who have been in power for 4 decades get a bit pi$$y when the other side of the aisle takes over...

dd74 10-12-2005 06:18 PM

OT is what OT is. Aside from the occasional "Do you swallow?" question and rudely debunking one or the other's political beliefs, it's a group of guys and gals I'd still help out in anyway possible, and I hope would do the same for me.

I see no problem here...SmileWavy

gassy 10-12-2005 06:33 PM

I can't yawn loudly enough...don't read this board anymore then. Simple as that.
It's a FORUM ON THE G-DAMN INTERNET.

gassy 10-12-2005 06:36 PM

dd74, good game so far! We'll talk.

FrayAdjacent911 10-12-2005 06:38 PM

I think in any 'off topic discussion' forums, you're going to see all of the differences come to light.

Now, as far as the technical forums, I haven't seen any other car forum NEAR as mature and helpful as this one.

But in the off topic... I have seen some very blatant labelling and a lot of arguing. I guess it's our nature revealing itself in the forum of the World Wide Web.

Isn't the oldest advise in the world to stay out of discussions regarding politics and/or religion? I take that advise myself & never engage in any of those types of threads. However, I don't hold it against anyone else who wants to express an opinion.
I think we've all seen the extremes some others can demonstrate in places like church, work and other group structures. There will always be a mix of personalities. I had to learn that over the years in the work place, and I had to learn to be tolerant of them - although in the work place and other social structures you all know the plotting that goes on to evercome those you don't agree with. At least that dynamic can't be exercised here (I hope).
Those who want to be obnoxious just demonstrate the type of people they are and we don't have to take it to heart.

what a heck of quote to be linked to! Mark Wilson, if nothing less will never be forgotten. I can see it now...

"On his death bed, he wispered what sounded like 'do you swallow'? I wasn't sure I heard it correctly and the reality of his demiss sunk in. I guess we hear what we want to hear and I will forever remebr his quick wit, bitter tongue and constant need for oral satisfaction both figuerativly and in the biblical sense..."

Leland Pete - F'um if they can't take a joke or a lil ball bust'n...

I miss the good ole' days when I didn't pay taxes and was ignorantly apathetic...alas.

Its a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.:D

note to self: quit watching so much UFC

jyl 10-12-2005 08:33 PM

Leland, I think this OT forum is very good.

I've seen bad OT forums, where threads are nothing but profanity and insults mispelled by mouth-breathing bottom-dwellers.

Here people discuss interesting, controversial topics from all different points of view. The discussion does get heated sometimes and occasionally people go after each other, but I don't think there is much of that. Quite often people take the time to type a readable post with some interesting links or data or arguments.

I agree with jyl. This board is healthy. It is raucous, earthy, angry, amusing, substantive when it counts, mostly civilized if reliably enlivened by the well-timed barbaric yawp, and ultimately decent. It is very American.

Dantilla 10-12-2005 09:26 PM

But this place was at it's best when the founder and president of the SCWDP had an actual SC.

So there.
