The EPA is a bunch of crack-heads

I am on "city water" and I hate the taste of the swimming pool it produces. I installed 2 inline filters on my fridge so ice and the water in the door taste like......you know........water.
I changed the filters today and decided to open them up just to see. The smell was awfull the color was a dark gray. This is the crap the government sais is ok for us to drink and bath in. Scary stuff

------- Clorine is in solution. It diminishes as it's used against organics so it's a good thing that you smell some Cl. That said a clean smelling glass of water is to help remove the gasses. A tap screen that airates the water and hold the glass way below the tap or try shaking a bottle of water to allow the Cl to escape.

------ not sure of your water system but many systems use a large tank creating a slow flow and add Alum to create "floc". The large "floc" falls to the bottom of the tank before the water goes to filters. Some alum is still in the water as it leaves the plant. Some systems also add lime to increase the ph and coat the system's pipes to prevent corrosion.

Maybe call your water supplier and ask for an understanding of your water system ?

Rick,
Maybe you need a reverse-osmosis (RO) system under the sink. Along with superior filtering, the carbon filter should remove any odors.

You're right though, used filters look pretty frightening. Usually it's just rust (and stuff).
