28% of Americans Agree with Filint and Mul!
Reading politics on this board, I sometimes think I'm going nuts. No matter what bonehead thing this administration does, what appears to be a majority of posters here consistently jump in with the most outrageous pro-Bush positions, oftentimes shouting down all others. Because I try to keep an open mind, I sometimes wonder if I'm the one that's out of touch.
Well, that's not the case. Most Americans have their feet firmly planted in reality. The latest poll shows that some three out of four Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. Whew! Now, we need to take this super-majority and change direction, before its too late. http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N13648183.htm |

Well thankfully, enough Americans had their heads on straight during the last two elections. I guess some are easily swayed when they hear bad news during tough times.

which way?
The poll results,as dubious as poll results are, don't necessarily mean that Americans want to be taken down the leftist/liberal path by some nut cases like Hillary or Kerry. Real conservatives are the disinfranchised now. We seem to only have two choices, ultra-lib or neo-con, neither of which are acceptable to the broad cross section of Americans.

How could any rational and intelligent human being be a proponent of the Bush administration?
I don't think we'll ever know the answer to that vexing question because advocates of this vile and venal administration shun self-analysis and defy all common sense. It's more than a little maddening, and gives way to troubling, neo-con thoughts of buying a big-ass powder gun and knocking on doors in the red states .... Someone like Noam Chomsky would never say this, but another civil war is the only solution if the malignant tumor that is the lunatic right keeps growing.

Y'know, I wonder......
I see caricatures of liberals and scratch my head. They're imagined as "elitist," a term I find completely incredible. That's the OPPOSITE of the traditional view of democrats. Traditionally, the republican party has been the elitist party, and the democratic party has been seen as the party for the Ordinary Joe Lunchpail. I won't go on, but my point in this paragraph is that liberals and democrats are being caricaturized as something they're generally not. Same with conservatives and republicans. Most everyone is a fiscal conservative, including the VAST majority of liberals and democrats. I know and respect quite a few staunch republicans, including ones who have been in leadership roles in that party for decades. This weekend, I will attend a 90th birthday party for someone who ran for Governor of a state, and who Emcee'd the fund raiser when Ronalc Reagan came to town. Very much a republican. Not at all the war-mongering, greedy, corporation-friendly, hearless beast we have come to associate recently with that party. Indeed, this person is as compassionate as I am, at least. Our chats are wonderful experiences for me. Okay, so my point is that there has been created this artificial division in our country that simply does not exist except in propaganda and political marketing. The true distance between our beliefs (for example, between my beliefs and Lendaddy's beliefs) are MINISCULE. We actually believe the EXACT same things....and disagree only on tactics and implementation details. Back to a familiar Superman theme. It's not "us" and "them" (unless you're talking about a very good Pink Floyd song). It's just "us." Gubmint is not "them." Conservatives and liberals are not "them." Divide and conquer has worked within our nation, and it's time we united. Again.

Okay, there is one caveat. One kind of exception. In statistics there are always "outliers." In political thinking also. We had the UFO guy (remember him?). You guys have MUL. Frankly, just as in statistics, I discard them. The rest of us would have a very good and enlightening and strengthening time over a table of pitchers and glasses. No doubt about that.
revolution will not be necessary if the voters were receiving accurate, objective information. We're not really a divided nation. We're being pitted against ourselves for political marketing reasons. We're being fooled into thinking we disagree. In fact, we're all very much the same.

When do we get to tell you how we feel about your country? Well for one I will be a bit above the fray and not critize your country because I do not live there. Intelligent? Well, not sure on that one but have done pretty well in life so far and intend on doing so in the future. Vexing question? Yes, it is a good question why the liberals in our country cannot open their eyes and realize that they are so out of touch with the remainder in America that they lost the last two elections and have no chance for the next election. Civil war? Who needs it. If we get too many more earthquakes much of the left coast may fall into the Pacific. The right coast is flooded and winter is coming. Lets see what happens in the next year or so but if you need help with your civil war please let us know and several of us could come down and help. BTW, you noticed that I did not say one bad thing about your govt or country, unlike your post above. Its a lesson you might learn in the future about other people's countries. Unless you are an ex-pat from America living down under it sure helps to clean your house before critizing others houses. We could really talk about a lot of things in Australia but its none of my business. JoeA

Our countries policies and actions don't have an impact on your national security or domestic economy. Our countries farm subsidies do not have an enormous impact on your primary producers. Quite simply your country is the biggest fish in the pond. So your actions have a substantial impact on all us smaller fish. When we see the big fish thrashing about in a crazed manner, endagering us in the process, we have every right to have an opinion. Put simply - if your economy sinks, ours sinks. If your attempt to plant democracy and harmony in the mid -east fails (as it will), the whole world will suffer the consequences. If your country (and mine) continues to use energy resources and pump greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere at the current rate, again the whole world will feel the impact. Sorry mate - but it's not a case of staying out of your business because it's everyones business. Edit - feel free to talk about things in australia. We won't bristle up and tell you to mind your own business. In fact, we may just agree with you in most cases.

One has to ask themselves what in the world changed their (those polled) minds?...Half-truth negative media saturation perhaps?...Perhaps artfully distorted story telling on the part of journalists and editorial boards?...Because it certainly isn't the ignored economic upswing, the fact that Iraq is being handled as best it could, and that we have a hands-on President who is willing to tackle difficult situations that is deflating the poll numbers.
The polls are like standardized tests that reflect how well, or poorly, the pupil has processed available information...Very interesting how the media ignores this reality and runs with polls as if they are news stories...It is an insult to intelligence. It is like somebody picking your pocket and then helping you look for your wallet. Last edited by Mulhollanddose; 10-14-2005 at 02:46 PM.. |
