Hey, guys, I'm not that exercised about the printers. I don't even own a color laser.

What I'm not happy about is the general idea of the government secretly embedding technology in devices to track and monitor users. Again, think beyond printers.

How about the (future) cellphone that reports your exact location and movements 24/7 to a log that the carrier provides to any government agency that deems you a "person of interest"? If the idea of the Federal government knowing where you are and what you are doing at any time doesn't bother you, then I guess you're not very paranoid.

If you heard the same NPR report I did, the "fingerprinting data" extends to digital cameras as well. They claim experts can match the origin of a photo to the camera that recorded it.

Sorta scary eh?

The future is now. Cell phones have GPS technology, many service industries are using these to track technicians in the field.
In an emergency, you can be tracked with your cell phone by a 911 operator I believe. Under the location setting on my phone, there is a location tracking option and 911 only option. For safety this is great but at the cost of someone knowing where you are or finding out where you are, you be the judge. I have been at accident scene before and having a cell phone and having an officer/ambulance get to you and to everyone else in time makes quite a difference between life and death so to me the greater good wins. At the same time, if I don't want to be tracked I can shut off my phone, problem solved.

More pointless technology that can be got around.
don't log the purchase, use an ip and a provider from another country.
