Press promotes racism.

Think about it - The Mainstream Media goes Krazy over Katrina - reporting every falsehood, rumor and lie as a fact:

Roving gangs of looters; gang rapes, shoot-outs and mass insanity in the Superdome; bodies left floating; Cannibalism even!

Mr. & Mrs. Middle Class White Bread America sits home being bombarded for days and days and days with reports of the total breakdown of all society, morality and order.

You dont have to stretch the imagination very far to think the consumers of this media garbage get to thinking to themselves - "hey, I don't see me and my neighbors behaving like that, even if a CAT 4 hurricane were to hit Madison...."

THEN what happens? Well it turns out things were not so crazy and out of control. Great propety damage and human suffering? Yes. All the rest? Mostly false.

So then what?? Nothing. Does the press castigate itself for it over-exuberance? No. Seen any special reports on what might have really happend? Have any editors or reporters fired? Why did they do this anyway? Ratings? Bush hatred? The presses inability to put anything in context?

So what is the net result? Millions and millions of Americans STILL believe the falsehoods that were told about the mostly poor and black residents of New Orleans. And that is promoting racism, IMHO.

I just returned from a week in New Orleans doing some volenteer construction work. From what I saw, without exception, is that the locals are being blamed for what happened. I didn't hear anybody local place any blame at the federal level. Not even the news papers.

I'm glad you asked. The "liberal media"'s agenda is not political. It is commercial. Ironic isn't it? The media does put stuff in context. Improper context. Because they're not in the business of informing. They are in the business of SELLING. As I say, the irony in all this just SCREAMS. That the problem is one of a "liberal media," when in reality it is a capitalist media, and THAT'S the problem. In my always-humble opinion.

Y'know I'm glad you mentioned this too. Because I think the majority of Americans still believe Saddam had WMD's. Rove understands the American People in the same way the media does.

Ever notice in the papers, when it is a white-on-minority crime it is a "racial crime".
When it is a minority-on-white crime it is a "bias incident".
Why is that??? Promoting racism works both ways.....

I seem to remember "yes". There was a bit of soul searching after.

Besides, all of the "mass media" reported the same stuff - the (so called liberal) mainstream media as well as conservative. I mean the looting/shooting/etc.

I remember reading somewhere (no, I don't have the exact source handy, so don't attack me) that 90% of interracial crime was black on some other race (white, hispanic mostly). Yet those aren't consider hate crimes, why not? 90%.....from what constitues about 5% of the population (assuming its teen to young adult black males mostly).
