Where to get top quality leather jacket?
I have had the same London Fog leather coat for about ten years and it is finally starting to fall apart. I've loved this thing and I'd gladly buy a direct replacement. But it seems London Fog no longer makes them. :( So can anyone recommend where to get my leather jacket for the next ten years? Not looking for a biker jacket - more of a 3/4 length thing...in black...of course...:D

Why not get your jacket resewn and if needed, redyed. Be cheaper and you can enjoy it for another 10 years. You can even have a new liner put in if necessary.

Janus -
Helen's Leather on Charles street in Boston (beacon hill technically) has a great selection at reasonable prices (for what they offer). Great coats. I had one in high school it made it all the way to college 'til someone swiped it... There's another leather place on that block, I forget the name at this time but they are strictly custom made. Hope it helps. |
I looked for years for a replacement of a beloved leather jacket and finally found one in an independent shop. The leather is unbelieveable: thick and soft. I may decide to be buried in it.
The maker was Andrew Marc, New York. |

Amsterdam - I looked everywhere in the local towns in the UK and in Spain without so much as a sniff - then found leather heaven in Holland. They did everything you can imagine including those to the ground Harley biker jobs. The hardest problem was too much choice. Great place to visit too.

Vanson Leathers in Fall River, Mass. Reknowned for their motorcycle jackets over the last 30 years, they also do many many styles of casual jackets. Bring your wallet. This is the best.

Make an excuse for a weekend get-a-way a bit north to Canada. Some of their shops have beautiful leather at fantastic prices.

I think the car-coat style looks pretty good in leather. Not full-length, but a bit longer than a suit jacket. It's a classic style which is also very "in" now.

Try:
Mr. Alan of Boston.... If you like the leather that is buttery soft, lined, quality stitching, zippers, buttons and in different styles. |
Try Vanson or Schott. Mostly they do motorcycle gear but they also have some nice casual leather jackets.
They should last you forever. |
I bought a full length leather, very high quality, at a Burlington coat warehouse / factory last year . Canadian made for only $225.00. The nice thing is it's NOT a trench coat. Looks like a very long overcoat. It comes to about mid calf. Also check on ebay as there are some great deals on new and vintage leather. How do I know? I have LOTS of dead cows in my wardrobe.

Thank you, thank you Janus. Finally something that does not lead to a big debate. I didn't even want a leather. This is a refreshing read. Reminds me of how powerful this board is.
