Question Job opportunities in Texas - Secretarial?

Howdy yall,
We have a number of pelicanhead posting from Texas so I though I would ask for my cousin.

She is a sweet gal in her 50's who has done secretarial work for aerospace and a few other professional businesses.

She is a native Texan who moved out here to Calif. after her divorce but after ten or twenty years moved back to Texas. She always wanted some property of her own and she picked up a few aches outside of Austin with a prefab house.

Now she is thinking selling and moving back to Calif. and where I would love to have my cousin around again I'm wondering are jobs that hard to find in Texas? Are there any areas that are booming employment wise?

I think part of the problem is age dissemination, companies can't admit it openly but few want to take on someone past the big five zero.

She did apply to FEMA but hasn't heard back, property taxes are coming and she is afraid it's going to wipe out her finances.

TIA

There are secreterial jobs in Houston. I'd suggest she work for a temp agency. Many companies hire temps to try them out before they hire them permanent.

I thought there were some openings with different state agencies.

Has she tried areas around Round Rock or Georgetown? they are a bit closer to Austin.

Yes San Pedro is the Los Angeles harbor and she probably would move near here just because my mom and dad helped her when she moved out here the first time. Problem being Ma and pa are in their late seventies and not in any position to be helping out.

What is rent like in Houston?

Seems like it would be expensive to move back here compared to relocating somewhere in Texas, but then again I am not going to attempt to grasp the workings of the female mind.

As far as big cities go, rent is cheap in Houston. Cheaper than Austin.
