Infiniti FX45
My wife is looking for a new baby hauler and likes the FX 45.
Anyone have any first hand experience with an '03 or '04?

Just sold my '04 FX45 after a year of ownership. What would you like to know about it?

Parents had one, sold it after less than 6 months for a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
I'll try to find out why.

One problem is that is only a 4 person vehicle. A lot of car for only hauling this many.

Cantdrv55 - what were your overall impressions of the vehicle?
The only downside I have read about is rough ride quality. Any problems, dislikes, complaints? What did you like about the vehicle? Why did you get rid of it?

If you get one, please ask your wife to leave off the laser cruise control, for the sanity of everyone on the road with a laser detector.

I loved the FX45. It was very fast, took curves like a serious sports car and was equipped with the tech package (rear camera, NAVI, Bose audio and laser cruise control), so it was the best crossover value. However, those were also the reasons why I sold it. I realized I didn't need a crossover SUV that can do 0 - 60 in 6 secs and cornered flat. It was really a one-dimensional SUV in that it was full of "sport" and no "utility". Those 20' wheels and tires were scary in snow though I hear Blizzaks are now available in 20s. Towing capability was almost non-existent. Lastly, it was just too plush. The leather was so soft and the rest of the car so luxurious that I was afraid that it might get dirty. I needed something much more rugged. Out went the FX45 and in came the Nissan Xterra. Funny, they ride exactly the same; the FX45 bumpy because of the very firm sport suspension, the Xterra bumpy because it's on a truck chassis. |

My wife has had the FX-35 for 2 years. 60k miles. We looked at the 45 but couldn't tell all that much difference in performance. The 45's get 17 at best on the highway. The 35 23. I think my wifes averages about 20 in town and on the highway. I don't know if that makes any difference to you at all.
You won't believe how well those things handle. Pretty amazing. Hers is holding up very well.

Yes, forgot to mention mpg figures. Plan on getting 15 mpg on combined driving with the FX45. I never got above 16 even when I babied it and drove mainly freeway.

I had one following me on my way back to Florida in my P-car in Tenessee. His laser cruise control was making my V-1 go nuts. I let him pass me just to have peace and quiet.
We ended up screaming through the Smokey Mountains together and I was VERY impressed how well that thing was taking the turns.

We looked at the FX 35-45 for my wife and for me at weekends (when we go out as a family with our 2 little girls).
It's an incredible vehicle... As someone said it's very sporty and handles like a car (actually better than most sedans). The lack of luggage space (you know all the junk you need to carry around with a newborn) and the aggressive styling (I love it, my wife was less keen) stirred us towards the Cayenne S. If you do not need to carry huge loads I think youcannot go wrong with it! |

Matteo,
How do you like the Cayenne? The Cayenne S is also on our list.

I think it is a great car. We narrowed it down to 3 cars... VW Tuareg V8, Infiniti FX 45 and Cayenne S....
The steering response of the Cayenne is incredible... U are not driving an SUV... I never liked the idea of a Cayenne... until I drove one. If you need/want to have an SUV this is the best. Are the different suspension setup and the better steering response enough to justify a $15k premium over say a VW Touareg? That is for you to decide... I wanted a car that I could enjoy driving at the weekends... Again the Infiniti was super... My wife was not solf on the look. Plus I must admit that the badge played its role. What I don't like? It does not have a huge luggage compartment but we fit a double stroller in there without any problems. Fuel consumption is 15mpg... no matter how u drive it... I'd buy it again |
