Are you using "misogynistic, oppressive or non-inclusive language"?
Amherst Regional High School will stop using the term "freshman" to refer to ninth-grade students because the term is not inclusive enough for some members of the faculty there, according to the Concord Monitor.
Students in ninth grade will now be referred to as ... wait for it ..."ninth-graders" in all official documents and morning announcements. ARHS Assistant Principal Marta Guevara, who pushed for the change, said the decision to move away from "freshman" came about after a production of the The Vagina Monologues two years ago. Guevara said the school wants to make students "aware of the possible misogynistic, oppressive or non-inclusive language." Are we sure this school isn't in California? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,173959,00.html |

While I agree that political-correctness is the most assinine thing to come down the pike in quite a while, WTF does it have to do with communists?

freshpeople... freshpersons... freshies... freshgenderneutralindividuals...
I hate PC garbage. Every paper I write for school sucks me deeper and deeper into their abyss. I don't even have to roll my eyes anymore when I parrot crap out of the book and rephrase my thoughts to match their leftie professorspeak. |
Women should stay the he11 out of the workplace and let men make the money. After a woman gets married (because women use college and/or work to find a husband), she should quit, stay home and take care of domestics.

Q. Why don't women wear watches?

To match the kitchen appliances! What's the defintion of a wife? An attachment you screw on the bed to get the housework done. What does WIFE stand for? Washing, ironing, f*cing, etc So, have I earned my Republican Merit Badge yet? |

What a load of crap. But, remember, it's not a problem, it's a challenge.
I HATE P/C! |
On NPR the other day (you know, that hotbed of Liberal sentiment) the president of CSUS Stanislaus was on, discussing the flak he took recently for statements he'd made that political correctness was ruining education. Maybe there's hope for us liberals after all...

The debate early this year over "niggard" was my all-time favorite.

The "niggardly" debate was a classic.
I also really enjoyed the spectacle when one of our learned Democratic California Legislators (who shall remain nameless to protect the vapid) raked someone over the coals for using the term "let's call a spade a spade." Racist! Racist! |

It's for good reason that more & more parents opt for home schooling or private schools. Sooner or later, the Government schools will self destruct.... |
My short spiel on P/C language - once someone coined the term "politically correct" the affect of that kind of language has been mininal. Smart people realize this stuff is just noise. And who cares what dumb people think? If they don'tsuccomb to PC, they'll succomb to the ploys of some other method of brainwashing. Being PC is in the same category as being proud of not being PC. Both utterly retarded in every sense of the word.

There is a lady on our project that has a burr under her saddle blanket. For me, at least. Reading glasses on the end of her nose. Anyway, I mentioned the need for a manpower assessment (an estimate of what skills were going to be called for in upcoming months) and she called me on that language. It was one of those instances where I let it go, and then wished I had snapped back. I've overseen the changing of many statutes to adopt "gender neutral" terms, and I'm all about workplace diversity and actively recruiting women and minorities to work in the construction industry, so her remarks were poorly targeted, I think. Plus, some construction terms that have the word "man" in them are quite clumbsy when you try to de-gender them. I don't regret not saying "personpower planning."

I generally don't care, but Supe's post reminds me how pissed off I get when Lord and Father are inclusivified down to "God". I like "Lord" - it shows some freakin' respect.
