Mexican vacation recommendations?
Well the resort we usually go to in Playa Del Carmen did not fare so well in hurricane Wilma. The reservations we had for the first 2 weeks in December will not be honored. So that being said, do any of you have any choice, quiet places to recommend on the Pacific side of Mexico? We would like a nice beach and are open to anything else. Thanks for the input.

Man...my wife and I did our honeymoon at Secrets Capri just south of Playa Del Carmen. Great place. Probably gone now...

Yeah. Thatched roof's don't hold up well with 24 hours of 100+ mph winds.

Yeah, the Yucatan area is probably my fav, but they'll be cleaning up for a while (just like every year around this time it seems). As mentioned the Cabo area is nice. If you are looking for a more low-key spot, you might look into Loreto on the Sea of Cortez side (with direct flights from Phoenix). I'd recommend staying at either the Whales Inn or the Camino Real (right next to each other).

Friends live in Cozumel, and its a mess right now. Their beach is full of debris. Resturant, 3 bars, including a concrete building, and their pier is completely destoyed. I have seen their storm damage before, but nothing like this. This link is before.

I've done Puerto Vallarta (Nuevo Vallarta actually) and Cabo San Lucas.
By far I preferred Cabo.

Mexican vacation recommendations?
Los Angeles is where all the Mexicans I know vacation...They quite often end up moving there permanently. I call it Tijuana Norte. |

Thanks guys. We will be looking into Cabos and Loreto. We are trying to stay away from the high rise destinations. These two look great. Thanks again.

My hot tip - avoid Mexico's hassles (questionable food/water, continual harrassment of street vendors, out of country issues) and plan your stay at the JW Desert Ridge resort in Phoenix. Drinks and food all day at the pools, great outdoor dining with huge gas firepits, cigars, wine, and awesome desert views. Can't recommend high enough. If you really need the beach then I recommend Santa Barbara which has the best beaches in the world with world class town charm.

Yeah sorry Joe, my bad there, I didn't pick up your December time frame. Actually December weather could be hit or miss in SB, most likely temps in the 50s and 60s. Too cold to lay at beach or pool - but plenty nice to walk/bike and enjoy the city. Drive over the pass for some winery tours if that's your thing.
