The "Dark Shawdows" Haunted House - Collinwood, I Lived in for over 2 Years!

In keeping with the Halloween spirit, here is a pic of Collinwood, actualy it is Carey mansion, a residence hall at Salve Regina University. I lived there for two years. Before Salve owned it, it was owned by the Carey family (NY Gov Carey). They filmed the dark soap opra 'Dark Shadows' outside (and some inside) shots.

I once stayed there for a whole week, by myself, well sorta, actually the manision seemed to bring out the adventuresome antics of many a co-ed lass.

Tell me about it! I was there for 4 years - not one day went by that I didn't wake up and think "This is the absolute best time of my life!" For real.

What folks may not know about this pic is, if you are taking that pic, right behind you is the Atlantic.

Yeah, it looks like the photo was taken fron the walk along the shore, was that called the "cliff walk?". Great place to take photos of alot of the newport houses if you are tall enough! Down toward the very end of the walk was a house owned by women who started a famous foundation, I cant remember her name and the home is not part of the official Neport Manisons list. I really like her house. Any idea of what it was?

Yup! Along the cliff walk, if you went further was a few tunnels and a great "Tea Pagoda". Remember? It was right on the cliff walk. Von Bulow's (sp) house was there as well. Some of those houses were incredible - No amount of money could build them today due to the materials and artwork that went into them. The Asters, Rosecliff, The Breakers, The Elms, Bellcourt...man that brings back memories! Why the heck did I ever leave that island?

Cliff Walk was closed last time I went. Thanks for nothing, Newport...

Salve is a very beautiful campus, though. And the Breakers just blows you away, in terms of sheer size. Can't imagine the heating bills for that...

It is "Biltmore". Built by the Vanderbuilt family from 1890-1895. 250 rooms and cost $4,100,000 million when built.
