partitioning software
any of you know of any good "free" partitioning programs out there. I have a 40gig drive that needs to have some partitions resized. I'm not going to plonk down 50 bucks for a program I'm only going to use once. for that price I could buy another hd

Well, you could download a pirated version of partition magic. I assume that the built in XP stuff won't work because the partitions that you want to resize aren't empty?
I've heard that this is good, but never tried it myself. http://www.ranish.com/part/ |
yep. I need to make the Cdrive partition on this disk a few megs larger and XP of course conveniently left out such common sense tools
as for Partition Manager - been there, done that. couldn't get it to work. thanks for the suggestion though |
Ranish Partition Manager. Never used it, saw reference to it a few years ago for Linux use. It does have a windows version.
Also, one of hte older Mandrake releases had a free limited copy of Partition Magic on it. You could also be brave, and try using qparted from a bootable linux cd like knoppix. |
If you're careful, and have big nuts, you could use the fdisk and part programs that come on GNU/Linux install CDs.
I'd say download a pirated version of Partition Magic. Much nicer. |
know of any sources? ;)

Used to do it with Fdisk for years, now spent the bux and bought Partition magic and its well worth the money!
