"Press"ing Plame

NBC Washington bureau chief Tim Russert told Leakgate probers that he had no idea Joe Wilson's wife Valerie Plame was a CIA employee before her name surfaced in Robert Novak's fateful July 14, 2003 column, and that he was stunned upon learning that Lewis "Scooter" Libby claimed he got that information from him.

But an account by senior NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell raises questions about whether Mr. Russert may have known about Plame's employment well before the Novak column.

On Oct. 3, 2003, Mitchell was a guest on CNBC's now-defunct "Capital Report," where she was asked by host Alan Murray:

"Do we have any idea how widely known it was in Washington that Joe Wilson's wife worked for the CIA?"

Mitchell replied: "It was widely known among those of us who cover the intelligence community and who were actively engaged in trying to track down who among the foreign service community was the envoy to Niger. So a number of us began to pick up on that."

One of you comrades is probably going to jail for his part in a smear campaign against Wilson because he told the truth about the administration’s lies, and how do you guys respond? More smear!

Hard to break old habits, huh?

Oh, and Mul, your post make no sense.

Mulhollanddose 11-04-2005 07:55 AM

Let me break it down for ya Rodeo...How could Russert not know, when his senior correspondent (Andrea Mitchell) knew, that Valerie Plame was an un-covert CIA bureaucrat, before Libby mentioned it?

Cheney/Libby had no choice as Wilson was lying.

What should they have said?..."We didn't authorize Wilson's trip, his wife did, and we cannot tell you who she is because she is a non-covert CIA bureaucrat"?

Wilson/Plame lied about how he got the commission and lied about the results of the hatchet job.

Nice cartoon. I like the "disguise"

Rodeo 11-04-2005 08:26 AM

Oh, and here's what an ethical, honest person would have done in response to Wilson's allegations:

"Ambassador Wilson was correct that the Niger/Yellowcake connection made by the president in his State of the Union Address was based upon forged documents, and is wrong. We withdraw that statement and thank the ambassador for his service."

928ram 11-04-2005 08:39 AM

Yeah, if Wilson knew the documents were forged. That would have been a stretch for a guy who never saw the documents in question in the first place.

I don't know which lefty website that you get your info from, but it isn't that hard to find the truth: Joe Wilson did nothing in Niger except waste time.

And return with the truth (yea, you forgot that part).

Remember when Clinton was lying and you were rightfully concerned with the truth? And outraged that a high public official would lie so brazenly?

When did that change for you? Was it election day 2000, or did it take some time before you started supporting the people that lie to us every day?

And by the way, Wilson did not prepare a written report. So my source is what the CIA and Wilson himself have said.

Maybe I should get my information from Scotter Libby? I hear he's pretty honest.

(So did he)...Wilson went for the lie and that is what he returned with. Valerie Plame aided and abetted the event.

Humpty Dumpty: When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.

Alice: The question is, whether you can make words mean so many different things.

Humpty Dumpty: The question is: which is to be master - that's all.

before all this bs started Wilson published her name and employment in the Who's Who book when he became an Ambassador.. well before his fantasy journey to Niger.

Can't be true...I have been watching Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews all week and they haven't mentioned it once...In fact Keith, as we speak, is offering that everything Wilson said was factual (regarding Niger) and that he was well-qualified for the mission.

cartoons excite the kids so they'll watch the same program again.

Notice how that Senate minority leader Reid has been stroking the far left recently by slamming the administration. I guess the Dem's are broke and the far left has the bucks. All that jerk is accomplishing is pushing the Dem moderates into the Rep camp.

Unlike in the case of Mr. Libby, the public has its own evidence of Mr. Wilson's falsehoods.

He wrote in his own book that his wife had nothing to do with his brief and inconclusive visit to Niger: "Valerie had nothing to do with the matter."

We now know his wife recommended him to her deputy chief, for no better reason than all "his French contacts."

Additionally, he claimed to the Washington Post that "dates and names were wrong" in documents not even in CIA hands until 8 months after his trip.

He also claimed Niger's yellowcake was never a subject of interest to Hussein's Iraq agents. In fact, according to the national security correspondent of the Financial Times (which is critical of Tony Blair), Niger's ministers (who Wilson boasted he knew so well) had been in communication with Iran, North Korea, Libya and Iraq over the disposition of yellowcake.

This hero to the far-left is a man whose word is effectively worthless.

Let them have him. Time will wash it all out, the counterfeit outrage of a publicity-starved poseur, a self-admitted "child of the 60s" who despises George Bush and who rushes back from "classified" assignments thrown to him by his wife to publish fallacious op-eds in the NY Times.

The only scandal here in this otherwise non-story of an administration which responded to lies by, at worst, clumsily disclosing the truth in its own self-defense, is that such a man could be fawned over by so many.

Wilson: “I knew that [Dr. Rice] had fundamentally misstated the facts. In fact, she had lied about it. I had gone out and I had undertaken this study. I had come back and said that this was not feasible. … This government knew that there was nothing to these allegations.” (NBC’s, “Meet The Press,” 5/2/04)

“Conclusion 13. The Report On The Former Ambassador’s Trip To Niger, Disseminated In March 2002, Did Not Change Any Analysts’ Assessments Of The Iraq-Niger Uranium Deal.” (Senate Select Committee On Intelligence, “Report On The U.S. Intelligence Community’s Prewar Assessments On Iraq,” 7/7/04)

“For Most Analysts, The Information In The Report Lent More Credibility To The Original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Report On The Uranium Deal, But State Department Bureau Of Intelligence And Research (INR) Analysts Believed That The Report Supported Their Assessments That Niger Was Unlikely To Be Willing Or Able To Sell Uranium.” (Senate Select Committee On Intelligence, “Report On The U.S. Intelligence Community’s Prewar Assessments On Iraq,” 7/7/04)

Wilson, the complicit media, and the DNC are LYING...They are concertedly lifting Wilson on their shoulders, raising his hand as if victorious, fully realizing that they are deceiving the American public.

The media/DNC are attempting to lynch the Bush Administration in the court of public opinion, to inflict as much damage as possible...When the truth is revealed it will be back-paged and forgotten...if and when it vindicates Bush, incriminates Wilson, the media and the DNC.

Don't be desperate Victor, the media will ensure that the truth about Wilson and Plame is kept relatively quiet.
