I believe in a higher power. I believe that she (ha!) set the big bang into motion. I believe that she might have a hand in things that are still going on. But there is no way I want those beliefs taught in the classroom. They have zero foundation in science. You want to teach them in a philosophy class, fine. But not in biology, chemistry or physics.

As has been stated before, evolution isn't a perfect theory and doesn't explain everything. But it has solid data and analysis behind it, despite what some outlyer "scientists" say about it. Peer review has spoken, and continues to speak.

ID is a big fairly tail. And the lack of understand of basic scientific tenets (eg the 2nd law) is sad, but not surprising. At some point what else can you do other than walk away shaking your head...or call a dumbass a dumbass. SmileWavy

The "intelligent design" crew is bunk. Evolution is witnessed everyday.

1. Evolution is ALWAYS the result of an outside environmental force.(natural selection)

2. Best example that most people can associate with is animal breeding: All the breeds of horses, dogs, cats, and other livestock that we have today DID NOT EXIST 2000 YEARS AGO. They were bred to their current state by MAN. In this case, MAN was the outside environmental force. Of course changes happen without man's influence, albeit at a much slower rate.

3. Through years of breeding the animals reach their current state.

4. Occasionally there is a dramatic evolution or MUTATION that proves viable. A notable one is the Sphinx Cat....you know the hairless cat that Dr. Evil has for a pet in the Austin Powers films. All of these cats are decended from one cat litter born in Canada. They are viable, because people find them to be a curiousity, thereby ensuring their survival. (yep...natural selection.)

5. All of this also holds true for birds, fish, plants and insects, viruses and bacteria. Remember Killer Bees? Didn't exist before the 1950's....yet here they are. (man was the outside environmental factor in this case). Remember Avian Flu? Where did that come from? That's right it evolved/mutated from something else.

With all that said, if people in Kansas or elsewhere want to teach about the Great Spaghetti Monster.....so be it. It effects me not one bit.

Funny you mention that. Many years ago while I was in grad school, I invented and taught a class at a community college: The Quantum Buddha, the Convergence of Eastern Mysticism and the New Physics.

It was really a bunch of fun to establish the syllabus for this course. I read everything from the Tao of Physics to the Dancing Wu Li Masters not to mention works by Kung Bo, Suzuki, Einstein and Bohr. The class was a huge success and kept students talking after class for hours.

When you get down to the absolute core of it all, there are no distinctions. The face of God is found on the surface of a supernova and a Quark, in a song and the point of a pen.

No missing link, no nada...The overlap of the evolutionary process should be in full display as it must be consistently trying and erring to step up on the genetic ladder...Aint happening and never has.

Sadly, sometimes it skips a generation.

Evolution can occur from internal change or external influence - looks like you'll need a bolt from the blue or a kick in the nutbag to change and even then I would wager that you will fight to the bloody end before you will have any of that.

Usually they are characterized by making harsh, emotional but illogical statements which are carefully calculated to get a reaction. Doesn't matter what the topic is, the sky will always be green.

There is no empirical proof of abiogenesis or macroevolution...This really is the argument. The argument that leans towards microevolution simply distracts the original debate.

I think we have a better understand how the sun was formed than how genetics work. The explainations will come but keep in mind, this is a pretty new science. It was only a few hundred years ago that such discussions would bring about a BBQ. The evidence that you require is difficult to obtain.

Politics is my game, nostatic...Science is not (not to say that spending years of life studying a dead-end street like evolution is beneficial at any level)...But I would betcha that I know significanly more about science than most anti-Christians know about the Bible or Christ.

I will admit my guess is less informed than many on this thread (regarding evolution theory), which interestingly does not diminish their susceptibility to error.
