Guys, I need your support...
**** this ****. I've had enough with my 911:
1.) I run 15x7/8s with low profile tires on a 7:31 trans. Every ****ing deceleration feels like Im going to go through the windsheild. Every bump in the street feels like the wheels are going to pop off. 2.) There is a rattle in my ****ing drivers door that I can't find. It rattles and buzzes right next to my ****ing head, I can't listen to my radio any more. 3.) The window seals are ****. Forget talking in the car with the windows up, the hisses and whistles are unbearable. 4.) I put plastic Welt bushings in the front suspension, and now they snap, crackle, pop AND squeek with every turn of the wheel. I've pulled them out the other day to check any play in them and couldnt find an issue. 5.) My freshly rebuilt 915 feels like a peice of ****. Every shift feels like the box is about to fall apart. I've got to hamfist every shift just to get the car going. Trust me, the new syncros are well broken in, it just feels like ****. 6.) The plastic banana arm bushings I've put in instantly turned the car from mild mannered autox car to teeth-rattling dump-truck ****-box. Goddamn Im frustrated with this car. |

Dunno, maybe time to sell it and get a new project?? Or tear the sucker all the way down and re-do it completely. Not sure how much that would cost though...been looking at prices for a semi-backdate and looks like it can get pretty expensive...

oh yea what is your daily driver ? perhaps you need a break..get atight rattle free fast BMW and kepp the Pcar not a perfect dream car but a fun project car. |
I'll bet that if you drive that car through Ohio, it will be perfect. All kidding aside, sounds like you've got your hands full. Maybe you should sell, and get something a bit newer and more "bulletproof". May be more cost effective in the long run.

Mat, step away from the car. Like Supes said, get her on jackstands then, call your local Pelican buddies over for a work party. Or, maybe before you do that, one of us should ride in your car so we can experience all six issues.

Well, It's a targa - what do you expect? On the other hand - find a nice road and wring it out so that you remember why you're sitting in that seat again.
I replaced my targa with a coupe for many of the reasons you state. Fact is it's always something so it's either something on the car you have or itll be something on the car you get. I do like the coupe (sunroof) and it is much quieter than the targa was but new seals (expensive) made my targa more bearable but the squeaks and rattles never went away. Lube things up well and that will help, seals included. My CIS is in bad bad need of repair, I have it running real rich to compensate for the problems (Backfiring) and I have to pass smog this month... My fuchs look terrible and I started stripping one to polish them and never finished - so now it looks worse. No time to finish the project...I think I'll just repaint them black for now. My interior looks like crap and my windsheild leaks. My ac fan works intermittenly and of course the AC part doesn't work at all (I just need the fan where I live). I just had the clutch done and I apparently am so critical of mechanics that the ones that are "good" around me aren't good enough. I don't need a parts changer... I few weeks ago my wife parked it behind the gym on the street and someone 3 point turned into the driver's side behind the door. No note; thanks. Just got that fixed but at the body shop they were sure to point out every single imperfection - I knew I had a bad paint job but now I want to drive off a cliff. {sigh} I should have held out for an E30 M3. This is exactly what I needed to hear this morning, thanks you guys.
Oh, I forgot #7 - my clutch shudders for the first 10 mintues of driving until it warms up. The worst part about the whole thing is that I don't have the cash to put the ***** back together. If I were made of money this wouldn't be a problem: - A wevo shifter - Some 16x7/16x8 Fuchs on S03s - A new set of doors - Elephant bushings all around Heh, Im only $4K away from making having a decent car! She has been a fun car, no doubts about that, but I just cant seem to work out these last couple of bugs. I forsee many a night in the garage in my future :( |

If you're seriously falling out of love with it to the point you want to get rid of it, let me know. I've been looking for an early 70s 911 to get into aircoolers with - project or not. I might be interested in buying it or trading for it. |

Well, last night I went out to the garage, put on my big-boy undies, and got to work on the old broad. Front suspension is down, Im going to clean, paint, and rebulild the whole mess. Found the squeek, Im pretty sure its gone now. Once the front is done, I'll start tearing down the drivers door to find the rattle. Then comes an engine/tranny drop to fix the clutch.

also, even if you replace the seals, the door may be out of adjustment and not close as much as it should, creating whistlin' dixie... maybe the door strike/catch mechanism (on the b-pillar) should be moved "IN" a few mm? (i heard that's a pita in its own right due to those torx-ish looking bolts- they like to strip)

summer is over. lemme know if you need any help. i think you should try to find a good roller and build the car of your dreams. it isnt your only car, and you seem sorta kinda patient, maybe. take your time, and find a 912 to trick out with your bag of goodies. the way you drive, i bet you twisted something!!! :)
