where's a porsche fanatic when you need one?
OK, this maybe a weird one, but I am about to try and buy a 944 project car. This will be my first porsche, but I have been around them all my life (due to Pelican brother back home in the UK). I am desperate to have some fun doing one of these babies up (as well as driving it of course :) ), and have done some basic maintenance before, but will probably really need some advice/help as I want to avoid too many mechanic's bills. Why oh why is it so difficult to find a willing person to help out at times like these?! Any suggestions (besides the obvious one of using this site) would be welcomed!!

go join the dorkiphus.com BBS. It's a DC-area porsche forum. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks, including some who are very serious about their 944s.

Man, you have to really hate money to buy a 944 project car.

Maybe - but love the exchange rate, so better to try it here than back home, believe me.

local PCA if dorkiphus doesn't pan out, but I've heard of it before, it probably will.

Skip the 944 and go for something air cooled and older, like a 912. At least they're going up in value...
Of course, I've also thought that a "fun" $50k investment would be a few acres in Arizona, a big barn, and 5 or 6 944s and a buttload of what will be NOS parts in 25 years. |
