What's the best flashlight around?

My mom says my dad wants some kind of fancy flashlight for his b-day next week, but she's not much of a stickler for detail and says it sounds something like "kell". I figure he wants something big enough to beat someone to death in case his gun jams, blindingly bright and long lasting. Anyone have any ideers?

How about something that's 10 times as bright as a D-cell maglight, indistructable for the most part, fits in your pocket, and costs less than 30 bucks?

Try the Surefire G2.
Surefire makes some amazing lights.
I have the Aviator as well, which is a dual bulb/LED setup. Pricy.

Oh man, those are nice. I think he may want something bigger that he can use as a club too.

Check out the Special Ops lights.
Not cheap, but bigger.
They make pain inducing bezels for those bad boys so you can put extra hurt on someone, too.

surefire - if you can get one. If you can, get two and send one to "any serviceman" over in iraq - they don't have enough and the lights are lifesavers.

If your guy wants something big to use to whack someone's knee caps, one of the big maglights would do nicely.

I just picked up SureFire G2 myself to mount on a varmint gun. It is unbelievable how bright it is being so tiny. I have a few 4 D cell maglights and is just as bright if not brighter than them. Only problem is that they take odd batteries and only last about an hour. Not a problem for occasional backyard varmint control, but not too good for use as a worklight.

I bought a Snap-On LED pocket flashlight over 2 years ago. It takes camera batteries (type 123). I use it every day in my job, and the batteries last around 3 months. The bulbs are supposed to last for 100,000 hours. Best flashlight I ever bought.

The Kel-Light was the original heavy-duty police flashlight. They haven't been made in years. Streamlight and Mag-Light offer large rechargeable flashlights that are similar.

Yup, sounds like dad is hoping for a "cop light"... Nothing at all like one of the following, an LED light that snaps atop a 9V battery. Our son-in-law is a Staff Sgt., USAF, currently in Iraq...we had one shipped to his APO. He sent back raves...loves this little light! You might add one as a stocking stuffer alongside the cop light. I'll guarantee you which one your dad will be most likely to carry everywhere.

Depends on how much money you have to spend The MAG LIGHT rechargeable is a great light and the surefire almost anything they make

I like the old Maglite 2 D-cell. It's my official flashlight for inspecting whatever went wrong with the Porsche when it breaks down at night. :p

This is right up your alley RL!

Surefire makes a riot control light that is so powerful that shining it in someone's eyes temporarily blinds them.

BTW, Botach.com sells those CR123a batteries for $1 each if you buy 25 at once. Good quality batteries, last batch were Kodak. Compare that to $5 each at Radio Shack.

Surefires are damn good flashlights...

For an inexpensive version, check out the Dorcy Spyder. Two Lithium cell, aluminum construction... and a hell of a lot brighter than a 3-D cell Maglite.

Rick Lee 11-16-2005 05:47 AM

Where the hell are the prices on that Pelican page?

RickM 11-16-2005 07:28 AM

I just bought a light I absolutely love. I got it at, believe it or not, Walmart. It's a 3 LED light that takes 3 AAA batteries. Bright (bluish) and the batteries last a LONG time...plus I can recharge. All for $12.

If I were you I'd consider a MAG light LED conversion. Nothing better than conserving battery power.

Is there such a thing as a Flashlight fetish? LOL
