Recently I've had a virus come up on my computer (Trojan.Vundo) everytime I start the computer up and I have to click the "OK" button on the red Norton Anti Virus popup about 50 times for the popup to go away. I don't know how this virus got on my computer, but every since last night when the "Norton was unable to repair this file" popup comes up, my computer has been running slower than usual and constantly keeps making noises (as well as won't go to sleep). What's going on here? The MSN tech response just looks to confusing to follow for me. Can anyone tell me what's going on with this Trojan.Vundo and what it's doing to my computer and how to remove it?
By the way, here is a screenshot of my Task Manager Performance. There's A LOT of CPU usage going on for some reason. Oh yeah, the process "System Idle" is taking up all the CPU usage:

The computer is a HP Media Center PC m480n
I check for spyware every three days with Spybot and Adaware.

Also, since this seems a recently discovered virus, you might force Norton AV to update signatures and re-run it.

oops, I got the year wrong, it's been around for a while. But still update signatures and re-run.

Norton only update their sigs once a week.

Get a CA product, they update 6 days a week.

Thanks. I used the Symantec tool to try and get rid of the virus, but it says there is no Trojan.Vundo on my computer. Strange.

How about the free virus software from Microsoft? Just go to their website and follow the links to their security section. Best of all it's free. The MS Anti Spyware works nicely as well.

Hi,

Note the file name of the trojan. Go into safe mode - F8 after a restart. Search for the file and see if it found, then try and delete it. Is the computer part of a network? Where can I get a heads up display like yours?

Thanks. I'll go ahead and try your suggestions tomorrow. Actually, I'm not part of a network. To get the heads up display (if you're using Windows 98, 2000, Me, XP, Etc.) press "Ctrl Alt Delete" at the same time and in the same order I have listed and your windows task manager should come up. Your default upper tab will probably be "Applications". Click on the "Performance" tab to get a display like the photo I posted.

My neighbors just got the same trojan and Norton AntiVirus was unable to stop it. Their NAV was up to date and running, but this one slipped past. I tried to clean it, but got frustrated by their complete lack of initiative and told them to call Dell, since their PC is just a few months old and still under warranty. The Dell tech had them completely reinstall Windows. I'll stop be this weekend and see if they were able to save their data. They're completely clueless and their daughter spends all of her PC time on AIM, so that's probably where it came from.

I also got rid of Norton 2002 and installed McAfee which cleaned up a few Potentially Unwanted Programs. :D
