The Price of Spoons Today
 

The price of Spoons has just gone up....the last set of this stuff sold for $9600.00 last summer....Service for 12......and today the price is $15000.00......Yep it sure does pay to buy spoons... Ouuu and I think the price does NOT reflect the Buyers Premium of 22.5% tacked onto the price....thats another $3300 or so.....So $18,300.00 for a set of Spoons.... Yes sir that DOES seperate the Peasants from those with Wealth and Taste.... ....

You know, that's a bit more expensive than boring old Tiffany shell & thread, but not orders of magnitude more. And that is some hand made, custom deisgned pattern by a "silversmith to the stars"?

Used to have a set of "coin silver spoons," which had a $ sign stamped in the back. Were made out of silver dollars melted down by the mint and then made into spoons. Ever seen them? Hope my Brother has them after our Mother passed but not sure...

Obviously, people who pay $15,000 for spoons.

Before Allan Adler died the Smithsonain Institution came out and filmed him at work..to preserve the art of Silver Smithing..so you might say Adlers work is a National Treasure....Adler, Blanchard and Friedell were all CA Silver Smiths of renown...Freidell was known for his early Rose Parade/ Rosebowl Trophys....Blanchard for his Colonial Revival / Arts & Crafts...minimalist decoration and Adler for his Modernism....

I was Lucky enough to buy some of this stuff before prices started to escalate...

I think presently the spoon market is being sustained by the easy money in cashing out real estate equity, thereby giving rise to a strong inflationary trend in the spoon market. Once the sobering of effect of the feds inevitably raising the prime rate combined with the number of interest only and variable interest loans, I think the demise of the spoon market is inevitable. I think this holds true for the knife and fork market as well. Just my opinion though, I mean I could be wrong.

Not to mention the "froth" in the cup market!
