As long as you don't pump gas into the right rear of a 1972 911. ;)

For me it is mirrors. I will not even move or touch a large mirror, (for fear of breaking it), which can be awkward since I sometimes do renovation work on houses. The situation just came up last month; they thought that I was kidding at first, then realised that I wasn't. I would not touch the mirror.

I am generally very non - superstitious (despite my astrology thread).

But I have to confess one thing, Nostatic. And this is extremely peculiar.

The volume control on the stereo in my Grand Cherokee is numbered from 0 an up.

I ALWAYS make sure its not at 13 ! The ridiculous thing is that for some reason the volume at 13 is very nice and when I turn up while driving (not watching the dial) it almost every time seem to stop at 13. Therefore I always have to look at the stereo to make sure its not 13. Almost caused accidents several times.

Superstitious ! Moi ???

I have a variation on this. Actually 13 is a lucky number for me. What bugs me are even numbers. That's part of my gas pump thing...dollar amount has to end in an odd number. It started back in grad school when I had a tv that had the volume show in numbers. I always had to adjust it so it was an odd number. It could not be at 24...had to be 23 or 25.

Its continued since then.

But I never said I wasn't crazy...

I'm a musician. Like a ball player, I have a routine I go though every time I play. I have "good luck" everything. Socks, shirts, etc. My wife used to travel with us all the time, but since her back went out she can't do it any more. I have a picture of her in my microphone case and I put it on top of my amp every night. I never eat before a gig either.

I worked on a fishing boat in the late 1970's. Our skipper was a young guy - early thirties but superstitious as hell. Funny thing was, we were generally the high liners when we followed his superstitions. On the few occasions when we didn't, he'd worry about it and sure enough, something would break. Here's a sampling of what I can remember.

1) No whistling, especially on deck; That would bring wind.
2) Never leave port on a Friday. One night we were fuelled, iced up and ready to go, but had to wait three hours until 00:01 on a Saturday morning before we could cast off.
3) Never leave port with a port list. We would actually pump fuel to starbord tanks until we had a starbord list.
4) No banannas onboard; bad fishing luck. In fact he wouldn't even allow yellow mustard on board. (Actually, I won't allow Banannas on my boat either)
5) No women on board under way or fishing. (Too bad too, because his wife was HOT. He'd let her meet us and cook when we were in port, but it was bad luck to have her onboard otherwise.)

When I am lifting wights I always do as many reps as my muscles can stand to lift, but I never do 13 reps. If I can feel it on the twelfth that the next one is going to be the last I stop right there.

I can kind of see practical reasons for these two. It just wouldn't do to die from falling off of a boat after slipping on a banana peel. The practical reason for number 5 is pretty obvious however unfortunate ;)
