I Can Barely Keep Up!
Ok, my ol man has been here for 3 days, the guy wants to power walk with weights for 1+ hours everday, lift weights and drink at least a 6 pack plus a bottle of ginny red every day and still want to talk politics till 11PM every night. Also - he wrestles with Max till Max concedes (a feat on to it self!). I can't keep the pace!
The guy is 82! I can't keep up! What should I do? |
Give him a big hug and thank your lucky stars he's near you....
|
Absolutely - eveynight before he heads to bed he tells me I have it all - I agree and I tell him I love him....and he does the same.
Something he has never done till my Mom died. Funny how stuff like that will change you. As we speak...he is mixing it up with Max. Lawd haf mercy! |

Kiss him on the cheek for me.
I love parents. Parents are the coolest. My mom......OMG she's awesome....... She's coming Wednesday!!!! (Dad's deceased) |
Yep, hang as long as you can, learn from him, and be thankful.
My dad was great, but didn't watch his health, didn't stay active and smoked and drank. I'm 35, he should've been 58 this year, but he's been gone for 2 now. My mom will probably be around for quite some time. She'll be here Wednesday as well. |
Give the man a hug and tell him you are glad he is around and enjoying life. I was fortunate enough to be able to do that with my parents until about 5 & 7 years ago. You'll never regret telling him that.

Save more money.... You're going to need it when you're 120. ;)

BTW, I can relate. Here is my dad attending a recent track event with me. He's 84.

I met a guy at the Bay Bottom Crawl, he is a P-car owner (944) and his car number changes every year to match his age. His car number this year was 86. Mind you, the Bay Bottom Crawl is not for the faint herted and is more trecherous than any DE I have ever done. His lap times are right in the mix with guys 1/2 his age.
My grandfather (WWII ex-army mechanic - battle of the bulge) did 100 situps and pushups every day until he died. He was an amazing man who built amazing weath from nothing and was a well regarded British Leyland mechanic in NYC, his company was called Adams and Mahoney. He retired when the Japanese cars started showing up in the early 70's. His partner told him he was crazy no one would forget perl harbor and british cars would always be more popular......... Mike - Enjoy your dad as much as possible, it sounds like you do he sounds like an awesome guy. My dad is 60 right now and needs to get in shape. I ride his *ss all the time about it. |

Also, take videos of them with you and the family. Mine passed 14 years ago before video cameras were really around much and the whole family wishes we had some recordings of them. JoeA |
Like others have said, enjoy it while you can.

Mandelbaum! Mandelbaum! Mandelbaum!
(I'm hoping someone will understand this reference.) |

Izzy: Drop your purse, and pick up that medicine ball. Jerry: Is this a gym, or some kind of fitness museum? Izzy: Not funny, over your head with it. Are you ready? Jerry: For what? Izzy: All aboard in the pain train! [Izzy starts hitting Jerry's stomach with weak taps.] Jerry: How many session did my parents paid for? Izzy: Not enough to make a man of you, daffodil. |
kiss the man for passing you the gene lotto winnings!

If all goes well he should see 100+ with no issues. I forgot how much I like the guy. I wish he could stay for a few months - who knows, maybe someday... |
Well, you can always look forward to when you are 82 your self. If genetics have anything to do with it (and it does, very much) you will be as athletic and energetic your self ! :)
As for me, I wish I had a father like yours. Mine (also a pediatrician) has always been rather distant, buried in his job career and generally introvert. I just hope my kids won´t feel the same about me. |
