Stick a sock in it!
I ****ed up bad. camshaft-oil problem
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=311931 if all you are going to do is flame me, just leave the thread and thats that. I ****ed up badly the other night. The oil light came on, i got oil, put it in and accidently dropped the oil cap down below the engine. heres where i ****ed up- i temporarily plugged the uncapped oil hole with a sock and the sock got sucked into it after about 5 mins of driving. its wrapped around the cam shaft-im pretty sure thats what it is... and i need some advice on how to get it out without shelling a ****load of money out to bmw to take it in there. should i unbolt the top piece there and cut it out and then flush the whole thing with some stuff at kragen or just try to cut it out piece by piece through the hole with a sharp razor and take the pieces out with needle nose pliers and then flush it? please any advice or help on this crap move i made would really really really help me out. thanks to anyone who replies not me but this is too funny ![]()

He who has not done anything stupid and regrettable raise their hand.
Still, the guy deserves an award for posting it. Big ones.

Thank you for posting this.
This is something that I would have done. Now I know not to.

I went to my friends Oil Change shop with my RX-7. They left the oil fill cap off and I did not notice until my next fill up, when I check the oil. I put a rag in the oil fill neck and drove it home.
I am sure glad I did not suck it in and ruin my cam shaft.

I would take the valve cover off and then put something down to cover the oil passages around the edges. Get some sharp scissors, needlenose pliers, and forceps. Have a friend stand by and hold a shop vac over the place you are working. Treat it like a surgery. You might also want to drop the oil pan and clean that out.

Somebody said the car is totalled.
Should I register and offer a trade for my 944? An E46 M3 with that problem sounds like a fun project, so long as the valvetrain isn't really ruined. |
