I wonder how many sea gulls were blown out of the sky when that thing went up!

I thought it would be the Japanese whale which burst it's rot onto the street while being transported. Thanks for a new whale explosion story.

That was a big news story back when it happened. The rotting corpse had laid on the beach for about a week and the stench was incredible. Local officials couldn't figure how to move it as a whole piece. They decided to blow it up but weren't sure how much tnt it would take to blow it back into the water. They over-estimated!! There were 500lbs chunks of whale falling on media and curious spectators. One chunk landed on the roof of a car and flattened it.

With the right demolitions specialist they could have cut the thing into steaks and packed it into boxes.

When they showed that footage on the evening news back then we were all sitting around the dinner table. My father busted up laughing which in itself was rare, my mother was all pissed off that they would show something like that during the dinner hour and my oldest sister who was a die hard hippie was all enraged that they would do something like that to a peace loving animal. I just wanted to see it rain whale blubber again.
