Another scammer targetting Pelicans

Just a heads up for anyone not familiar with these scams.

Another "Nigerian" counterfeit check scammer is trying to dig up some targets. They've decided to go through Pelican and target users, hoping someone will bite.

The email address they are using is " moris_lnc@hotmail.com "

Here is the message they are sending;

*****
Dear Sir/Madam.

Am Mr Robin Morgan,I have a client who is intrested in purchasing
your car and would like to know the last price and present condition of it.

Regards,
Robin.
*****

First off, note the poor english, secondly note it's for a "client", and lastly, I don't have, and never had a car for sale...

Just an FYI so none of us gets scammed.

Jim

I'm pretty much at the point nowadays that any message starting with Dear Sir/Madam gets trashed.

Too bad I don't have a virus to send back to 'em. Something like an xcel spreadsheet file that's supposed to have my bank information and instead takes 'em down. I get at least one of these requests a week. If they were real I could have bought one of those 4 Carrera GTs that were sitting on Advantage Porsches showroom last weekend.

the lads from Lagos

check out http://www.scamorama.com/ if you have the time.

I'm really more interested in extracting more performance from my P car than baiting these d**kheads.

Peace.

I had my car posted here only on Pelican and received numerous Nigerian type inquiries. Many are aware of this type of scam now so hopefully someone doesn't learn the hard way.

I have my X5 listed in Roundel, the BMWCCA magazine. All I keep getting are Nigerian "buyers"... must be a market down there... :-(

All of these scams are based on finding one ignorant participant out of tens of thousands of emails. They obviously are successful or we wouldn't get a dozen emails a week about our Paypal, eBay, Citibank accounts being frozen and to click on the link....

Well, if you want one to send back to them, the past week or 10 days the number of virus emails I have seen on the internet has tripled.

Some idiot is sending out a whole bunch of new versions lately, so keep a very good eye on your inbox. Luckly I have an email program that allows me to go onto the internet and view the sender and subject before downloading them to my computer. The virus emails are deleted without ever making it to my computer...

When I advertised my car I put "No scams." I didn't have one attempt.

That's a good tip Lee. If they figure you're "in the know" they probably won't waste their time.

That's a lot shorter than
"No 409s, no Nigerians, no relatives of former heads of governments trying to repatriate funds, no people looking to share excess contractor payments hidden in secret accounts, no princes or princesses of little known African cities who want my help to get their dead royal parents money out of africa through my bank account before the rebels who overthrew them take it all, nobody with a client who is owed a refund by someone else who will send me a cashiers cheque then expect me to send the balance back to the client after I deposit the cheque but before it comes back as fraudulent, and no tire kickers."
