Lucky you, that's a great city.

Killer music scene and pretty good BBQ. Toss in a few cervesas and it sounds like a good couple of days.

vash 11-23-2005 12:24 PM

lucky bastard, bonus since you are a musician. drink a few shiners for me. and eat a chuychanga.

I was at a conference in Austin a few weeks ago. Having heard so much about what a great city it is, I was a little disappointed. Running along Town Lake was nice.

The cab driver who took me to my hotel told me that Austin is no more liberal than the rest of Texas, just more enlightened. The tie-dye t-shirts saying "Keep Austin weird" made me think of Berkeley.

Hey man, well, hopefully some other Austin guys will notice this... If the Austin porsche guys are like the Austin guys from another group... well, they're said to be hard to get together... like herding cats.

"enlightened" is just a word the liberals use to make it sound better... hehehe... Austin is full of old school hippies, new hippies and young liberals due the the university.

I probably won't be able to meet up with you nostatic... I work 1pm to midnight tuesday through friday...

I heard that the mean IQ went up when Bush left town.

That's just what the whiney liberals around here say to make themselves feel better. ;)

Bush never lived in Austin, AFAIK.

I lived in Austin for six years back in the mid to late 80's. It's definitely MUCH more liberal than the rest of Texas. The best way to descibe the place is that it's a sort of third-world/bubba version of Berkeley. Everyone under 35 is drunk or stoned, has pale white skin covered in tatoos, and wears black even if it's 100 degress with 90% humidity. (There are a lot of interesting restaurants, though). Have fun.

Did you bring this crappy ass cold weather with you to Austin Nostatic? Hard to enjoy this great city when you can't get out.

nostatic 12-07-2005 06:21 PM

I'm here right now. I slipped on ice walking 50 feet from the Papadeauxs to the hotel. Almost broke my frickin' elbow. stupid city.

krichard 12-07-2005 06:30 PM

That's the problem, your way up north. If you were staying southwest you'd be much better off and having a much better time. In fact I'm sure that all the surfaces are sanded down south ;)

I really really hate this type of weather. I would take 110 degree heat anyday over this crap. Oh well, sorry your trip to Austin had to be during such an odd weather patch. I'm sure next week it will be back in the mid 80s like it was last Saturday.

red-beard 12-08-2005 02:55 AM

Don't worry, Todd, winter only lasts a couple of days. It was 85 on Saturday. They are predicting 70's for next week. Back to normal.

So, you're in Texas. Are you packing?

yeah, American Airlines loves it when passengers bring a Sig on the plane. Makes them feel all warm and fuzzy...

Austin, purdyst town in Texas.

red-beard 12-08-2005 06:31 AM

It is no problem. But, you do have to check the firearm.

And you definitely meet the guidelines for "traveling".

MichiganMat 12-08-2005 07:26 AM

If the weather is good, go for a run around town lake, then head out to Barton springs for a cool-down.

Austin is a bar and music town, head to 6th street to be with the crowds. Head south to the warehouses to be with the locals.

If you can rustle up a group and a car, go south of Austin to "The Salt Lick", its the finest BBQ in Texas. BYOB. Don't be shy, kegs are welcome.

If all else fails, theres a strip-club on every single street. You've probably got a dozen within a square mile of you.

krichard 12-08-2005 07:48 AM

It's currently 23 degrees out. I highly doubt anyone's getting out in this city today.

nostatic 12-08-2005 08:23 AM

A strip club on every street? I didn't know that!

Man it's cold here in Dallas!
