Underrated drummers thread
Saw a Dave Matthews Band concert on TV last night.
Is Carter Beauford awesome or what? Incredible chops and his timing is rock solid. Any other drummers, past or present, that don't get a lot of recognition? (Yes, I am bored today. Waiting for the paint to dry in our bathroom so I can finish the trim.):p http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/drummer.gif |
Carmine Apice, Vanilla Fudge.
|
Drummer in Dire Straits. Goes to show that less is more (IMO).
|
That's funny, Vinman.
I was downstairs flipping through channels and was thinking about Carmine Appice. I studied out of his "Realistic Rock" work book for many of my early years as a beginning drummer. I had no clue who he was until later in life though. My all time influence is probably Jimmy Marinos from the Romantics. He is definately underrated and is a "less is more" type of drummer. Plus, he used to own a 911 back in the day when we were playing around the Detroit area. |
Phil Rudd and Frank Beard.
|
Robert Johnson from KC and the Sunshine Band. :)
|
Not exactly under-rated, but Keith Moon has to be the most intriguing and entertaining drummer to watch perform his craft.
|
Danny Seraphine's drumming on the early Chicago albums was pretty good and added to the music... Mitch Mitchell on Hendrix "Let me Stand Next to your Fire" was great.
|
Greatest drum song ever:
Cesar Zuiderwijk Who can guess the band without Google? Probably noone, but I guess thats the point of this thread :) |
Phil Collins with early Genesis one of the best.
Carl Palmer from ELP comes to mind as well. |
Another great one, Terry Bozio from Missing Persons
My two personal faves are Carl Palmer and Keith Moon |
Dennis Wilson...the guy could keep a beat...AND surf. Alas, he also loved screwing up his mind, which resulted in his drowning death. Yeah, I know...different beat, and a different message than today. But, in his time? Yeah, pretty damned good... Then, of course, we can all add Pete Best to this list...He's gotta be number 1, ALL things considered. ;)

dan hickey
let's see if i'm the only person here who knows :D |
Jimmy Chamberlin (sp?) , Smashing Pumpkins.
|
Terry Bozio is NOT an underrated drummer!!! He might be almost unknown outside the drumming community, but he's definitely not underrated...It's like me saying that Mike Portnoy from DT is not talented.
|
Mike Portnoy is incredible!!!!
Anybody seen DreamTheater live? Can he do the licks like on the CD's? Some of the tracks seem to be impossible to do with four limbs. Terry Bozzio rocks, BTW. He's outside the box for sure but wow. |
Rod Carson (Santa Clara Vangaurds Snare Capt in their Hay Day) Sid Hassan (Boston's Drummer), Pick Withers & Hal Blaine.
|
I have seen DT live twice!!! And yes, he really does pull off all of those licks while twirling and tossing his sticks into the air!
He's actually a really nice guy...Very down to earth. |
Ringo was pretty good. Just listen to the tasteful playing on Nowhere Man or Something or Come Together.. etc.
|
Ginger Baker...
Peter Criss.. Quote:
