If you don't like the holydays you are totally missing the point. Selfishness blinds one to an open, forgiving, humble and loving heart...the very best in life surely will escape you.

Spend this time focusing on what you are grateful for, do a written gratitude list, and tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Do these things with an earnest heart and these six weeks will pass faster than you like them to.

Down at the parents house now myself. After 4 bottles of wine last night, I grabbed a nice Bass ale out of the fridge and went to the liquor cabinet for a pour of Jameson to accompany the beer. Dad had finished the bottle last week and I was forced to drink the beer with no whiskey. Darned family...

LOL! I am drinking that exact thing right now, as I type this from my parents house. I'm taking a break from it all....

Sebring, "give" your parents a wireless DSL connection for Christmas. Then make sure you bring your laptop next Thanksgiving to their house.

last thanksgiving what the best ever. surfed in the morning, had dinner in the evening with friends.

this year is off to a rougher start. blew the popoff valve out of the 911 when i tried to start it this am. drove in stupid la traffic to have a bad breakfast/lunch with my dad and his wife down in OC. then threw my back out when I was changing clothes to wash my bike.

getting better though. rode PCH on the bike as the sun went down. am going to hit a hot shower then off to friends for dinner and poker. and i might have a jameson or two as well.

How's this. My wife, 15 month old daughter and I head to my brother-in-law's house for Thanksgiving dinner. We get there and find out that my father-in-law is pissed at my mother-in-law and decided not to come. My 15 year old niece is fighting with my brother-in-law and is holed up in her room. My wife tries to console my niece, and meanwhile a half dozen of my brother-in-law's idiot friends show up and start drinking and smoking cigars, with my baby girl in the same room. So we up and leave, before dinner is served. Drove around and found a restaurant that was open and had pizza for Thanksgiving.

Hate to whine, but what really makes me sick is that last Thanksgiving was the last one I had with my mom, who died of stomach cancer this past spring. All I can think about is her putting on a happy face and ignoring the obvious pain she was in to make sure that we all had a good time and enjoyed the day.

Some people just don't appreciate what they have.

Not all holidays suck, but this one sure did.

Gee, I had a nice dinner at my house with my family, parents, and brother. Talked alot, good food, and watched some football. I guess I'm the minority.

Our trip to my Mom's 100 miles away started with us sliding on an icy road a mile from the house and plowing into the back of a guy's van. A handicapped person no less. No injuries, thank goodness. I was driving and there was simply nothing I could do. The ABS was going crazy. Waited an hour for the cops to show up. Expected a ticket for a rear end collison but the officer was cool and let me go. Zip tied the grill back on and back on the road. Pregnant wifey was upset about the cost we will incur so I figured it was going to be a pretty sucky day. Almost to Mom's we pass an old dude with a flat tire on the side of the freeway. ( Did I mention it was windy as he!! and about 15 degrees?) I turned around and put his spare on for him. I figured I need some good karma for the rest of day. ( He reminded me of my Dad, who passed on a couple of years ago.) Finally got to my Mom's four hours later and had a great dinner and conversation with my family. We will do it all again at Christmas at our house. Yeah, I am pretty darn thankful for what I have.

Seems like the holidays are fine 'till you have to interact with in-laws, freinds, family and such. I don't think I spoke to more than 3 people all day. The clerk at the 7-11, a woman on a sailboat and another person in a kayak. All in all it was a perfect day.see more about it

Not a bad turkey day away from the family. Wrenched on the car a bit, watched the annual Lions butt-kicking, ate dinner with some friends, and am calling it a night with a shot of Slivovitz.

Still, I can't help but wonder what joys I've missed out on by not being with family: the Michigan winter, long car rides, fights with my brother, Stovers stuffing, cranky grandparents. Ah, good times....

Well, started this morning at 6:30 AM with the T-day Mulholland run, came home, fixed breakfast, watched the Lions suck ass against the Falcons, went on a 35-mile bicycle ride, came home, watched the Broncos eek one out against the Cowboys, then off to dinner...

No one could stand the idea of cooking a turkey, making all the fixings and then cleaning up the mess afterwards. So my wife, her sister and mother got together with my family, and we had T-giving at Palomino in Westwood. Promptly got drunk off Kettle One martinis, and acted overall irreverantantly with the old man; ate way too much and am now trying to head off the hangover train with aspirin, a triple-shot cappucino and a half-gallon of water. I'm now waiting for South Park to come on. That will surely kill whatever brain cells I have left. To say the least, I feel no holiday pain...
