Oh Crap !!!! I've had three 914's too... I know they were VW-PORSCHE's....but if you are fairminded you would agree that they were much more a "porsche" then the 924-944-968-928 waterpumpers ever were...& then there's the 914-6....go figure !!!!

Talking about respect, a 914 in not and never was a Porsche!!! It may be able to beat the crap out of any 911 or 912 but it will never be RESPECTED for any reason. A 914 is the finger in your face to all real Porsche owners.
Nothing personal but I would rather drive a Yugo. So called liberals of today would have us all driving 914's.

OK...so since a 914 had VW parts, it will NEVER be a Porsche....what a crock of sheeyit. If that argument is valid then the 356 isn't a Porsche either.....

The 356, when first introduced, was equipped with a COMPLETE VW drive train. To this day there are MANY parts made by VW that are interchangeable with the 356.

There is a VW/Porsche parts manual that is traded among purists...the VW parts are 1/3 of the price of the Porsche stamped parts.....

Put down the crack pipe Snowman.

The only diff between the 914s and the 914/6s were the engine, bolt pattern and the VIN#.....same trans(gearing was a bit diff), suspension and electrics. The brakes were a "bit" beefier but nothing that a better optioned car would have had in any other brand.

What gave the 914 the Not a Real Porsche (NARP) label was the VW-Porsche was sold in the VW dealers in Europe. Here in the US it was sold along side the Porsche and Audis of the day.

Remember the unholy Porsche+Audi dealer linkup?

And both distributed by Volkswagen of America, (until 1984), to really confuse things further.

Liberals are the types that enter alcoholics anonymous, seek positions of power, and then attempt to remove the Lord's Prayer because they claim it offends people.

They try to demonize good even if that good was instrumental to their salvation.

darkbeer 12-04-2005 09:16 AM

We're carping about 914's here...
don't go & distract the thread, just when it's finally getting good, with some bla bla bla about "liberals" & "the Lord's Prayer".....
(talk about a one track mind...)

About 914's.....I would suspect that some people that object to them probably have gotten their butts wiped by one (or more)....just speculating here....

Joe Bob 12-04-2005 09:22 AM

Yeah leave to Mull to try and bring it back on topic....I see he moved back to SmelLA? Wonder what Red and Blue mixed looks like...

As to 914s....well they never did have much factory backing and the sixer they put in them from 70-72 was a detuned "T" 2.0/6 motor from the 69 model.

Geez talk about a step back...Hey let's make the better handling car with LOWER HP so it doesn't compete with our flagship model.

They did the same with the Boxster and to some extent still with the new Cayman.....

Mikez,
Actually, the 914-6 engine is the same detuned engine used in the '69T models. However, that was sufficient power for a <2100 lb. vehicle.

Joe Bob 12-04-2005 12:08 PM

The US T in 69 had 110-130hp depending if it was a sporto or stick right?

The 914/6 had 100hp if I remember....

The 2.0/4 they came out with in 73 was a lighter motor and close in HP....on tight tracks the 914/4 is a better ride.

WTF? This is a new concept to me - help me out, I'm a foreigner. What part of American Indian culture have you taken on?

1969 911T

I have a dyno graph for the original engine in my car with e cams. It made a *****in' 126hp (108 at the wheels) - could just about tear out those engine mounts.

(edit) Revised for important accuracy - it was 108hp at the wheels, not 110hp - a huge overstatement of nearly 2%.

Liberals are caring, considerate people, whose only consideration is for the welfare of the people.

......

Well a lot of our constitution and bill of rights for a starters. The indian nations were well organized. This is way to deep to go into on this forum but NONE of the movies show any of the real relationships between them and the pioneers. The american revolution changed a lot of fundamental relationships, mostly because a large number of indians were on the wrong side, ie they were very conservative and loyalists. After the revolution everyhing got very complicated. George Washington sought revenge against some tribes(nations) and rewarded others, depending on what they did during the revolution.

Anyway back to the 914. First of all,if you haven't noticed, they put the engine in the WRONG PLACE.

The styling is next, there is none.

Its was built with the same or worse quality than a VW.

I already admitted that it could beat a 911 but so could a go cart on the right track.

Did I mention that it lacked style?

What a great read! Referencing the post about 'bbs changing your opinions' I opened this to find out about my choices. It's almost time to go on the dole (social security), so I should become more liberal. Here's my take on the conservative v liberal. I hope you well written folks will help me here.

Spent my whole life as a conservative, at least by my definition:

Conservatives work and defend the country. We pay higher taxes and support the economy. My tax bill (federal, state, self employment, FICA, SSI for myself and my employees) during the course of my working years has exceeded seven figures.

While Liberals have benefitted from the toil of people like me, some complained they were not getting a big enough piece of the pie. So far, so good.

But listening to some of you, it has changed to also mean that Conservatives are Christian, God fearing people of high morals who love the death penalty and are against a woman's right to chose. Liberals are not just whiners, but have become pro gay, pro abortion, flag burning humiliators of the Constitution and all this country holds holy.

I call BS and hope this whole thread was a joke. God (the big guy) help us if it's not.

I am pro choice, anti war, anti death penalty, fiscally conservative, non Christian, and have no problem with gays validating their relationships. Since I will soon be receiving public assistance, am I liberal or conservative?

SmileWavy

PS. Trashing politics is one thing, but cars? Snow with a racing 912? Mul with a freakin' ricer? We know Z will build anything to piss off Porsche purists. We had a nice canyon drive sunday with 914's, 911's, a Viper, and Mul's rice ball. We exchanged waves with Hondas, Ducati's, a Modena and a CHP.

And the 914 wasn't my first choice... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1133754044.jpg
