Walk to the right!

Something that really gets to me, that should be common sense, is the side of the sidewalk or walkway where people walk. In the USA, and most every other country, people drive on the right side of the road. It should be apparent that the same principle be followed while walking? At least 20 times a day it seems that people have a difficult time deciding which side of a path to walk on and then there is the "shuffle" while two strangers decide whether to go to the right or to the left. What also get s me are these groups who walk slowly and take up the entire walkwalk. Get out of the way!!!

Rant over.

When I lived in Asia, it was the opposite. Left is the norm. Took some getting used to.

The 5 wide seems to be a Euro thing.

Walking around Manhattan this week has brought all that back.

Must be a CA thing.

Some people walk on the right, as is traditional.

Some people lean so far to the left, they can't help themselves.

Some think the tradition was established to keep them down, so they are fighting the status quo.

Some are on LCD, and don't know right from blue.

I accidentally run into those people if they are coming at me or if I am coming up behind them I get really, really close and then say in a loud, deep voice, "excuse me." They usually jump and then move.

Something else that you often see in malls or shopping centers is when people walk but are looking any where but forward. I run into those people too. I'm no hulk, but I'm 6'2" and 200lbs so I usually win.

I run at the gym.

The track 1/12 of a mile, and has two basketball courts in the middle. The basketball players have no regard for the runners. They stand, sit, and even lie down on the track. They throw their gym bags, t-shirts, basketballs, and shoes on track. They practice dribbling on the track. When they cross the track, they don't even look to see if any runners are coming their way.

When running I often to run into the basketball players--even when I'm trying to avoid them. There's just no way to move in time when some guy who is dribbling backwards decides to step right in front of you when you are just a foot away.
