My freshman year in high school had just ended.... finals were over... the date was june of 1995...

I had a ticket to see the dead at shoreline... Ed spiegl, a senior i knew from the soccer team was my ride to the show... well... ed never showed up... apparently "forgot" about me... and I was stuck at home with a grateful dead ticket and no way to get to mountain view...

jerry died in august of '95.... my first and last chance to see one of my all time favorite bands... i'm still really bummed about it.

:(

thats no good GHS. i have seen them at shoreline about 20 times, only a couple since jerry's passing. last time they has a female singer who's names escapes me doing the lead and it was fair. what's that saying? "don't let phil (lesh) sing, ever."

by the way head, stanford, Cal or san jose state?

Don't really care much for them these days, but I'm pretty sure you're referring to Joan Osborne (you might remember her from her one hit wonder "What if God Were One Of Us" or something like that.). Some friends were playing a recent Phil show for me the other day with her on it, and she was pretty damn good imo.

there ya go, that is her. she did a good job at the show i saw her with them at.

and by the way, what if god was one of us? maybe we elected him president and are just finding out?

I was supposed to go see what ended up being the last real Grateful Dead concert on LSD in Chicago. I was offered the ticket last minute and declined because I had to work the next day and there was no way to get out of it. Besides, I figured I'd catch them on the fall tour...

I went and saw Jerry Garcia Band in either December '96 or January '97--can't remember which.

I don't mean to sound sacreligious, but I'm pretty sure God wasn't a drunken frat boy in his youth (err... til age 40 or so) :)

I've also seen the JGB (since Jerry) w/ Melvin Seals, etc. Pretty good, but 'The JGB' minus Jerry is what 'The B' (but Robbie Robertson wasn't there, so that's not right either). Actually, before his passing, in the later years, the JGB was much better than the Dead imo.

The best male singer the Grateful Dead ever had was Pigpen. I'd have to say "Workingman's Dead" is my favorite album. I also really liked Donna Godchaux...

Ooooh, Donna Jean... to me she was 'hit or miss'... I've got too many live shows where her screeching is like 'fingernails across a blackboard' to my ears. Got to agree w/ Pigpen though...the pre-74 shows are without a doubt my favorites.

Lots of Dead on archive.org, but not as much as there was a few weeks ago.

No, no and no.

I went to Oregon...

...and noo, I didn't have dread locks and my nick-name wasn't 'Dirt'. ;)
