Parking Lot A**holes.

There was a previous thread about where you park your Porsche (like far away from the big SUVs), and that led me to reconfirm my obsession about parking even our other cars, away from EVERYONE.

Well, yesterday, the Pep Boys lot was half full, so I parked the Audi at the farthest-most slot, with tens of empty space closer to the entrance. And when I came out of the store, found a minivan parked right next to me. Luckily I had pulled all the way over the left side to the island, thus leaving as much space as possible in MY parking slot, and luckily the van was centered in her slot (ask me how I know it was a her!!!!!), so there was no damage on the passenger side of my doors.

But why do they do this? Can cars be magnets? Do all Porsches and Audis and such attract cars like bees to honey? Note that I didn't use "like flies to ****".

Once I actually kicked a truck's door in when he pulled this on me. Why do I get so angry about this?

Well, she was obviously in HER parking spot also, centered, thank god! Good thing you parked WAY over or her drivers door could have been dinged by your passenger.

As Will Smith screamed in "Bad Boys": LACK OF RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY!

I know the feeling, it drives me crazy as well... and I do the exact same thing you do.

Why people do this: I think it has to do with the fact that most people rather follow than lead.

Look at it this way; a cinema empties through a door. One person will open one door (or even a double door) and EVERYBODY goes through this one door. It only takes one other person to use the second door and suddenly other people will start using that as well... but still not considering the third door. And this happens every time I walk out of the cinema.

If anybody has a good idea how to prevent this, I'm all ears.

This should be moved to OT.

You vandalized somebody’s car for parking too close to you? Sounds like you're the a-hole.

so let me get this straight...there was no damage, said person didn't park "over the line" and you once kicked in someone's door because they shared a PARKING LOT with you? You're simply angry because somebody parked next to you? Dude you've got some serious anger management problems, put the crack pipe down. If you are this myopic about parking, I suggest you buy yourself a beater that you wont care about parking it, that or carry a pair of jogging shoes with you at all times so you can park 2 blocks away from everywhere you go. God help you if you ever have to out to Los Angeles where our compact parking spots are about the size of a postage stamp and even Mini-Coopers barely fit in them.

I had to take my daughter to a medical appointment a couple of weeks ago. I parked in the far end of the parking garage in the space closest to the wall. When we walked in I told my daughter "watch - someone is going to park next to us."

Well, when we got out, sure enough there was a car next to us.... a Boxster! He willingly gave his life so my 911 would be unscathed...

The next time I impersonated a visiting Dr so I could park for free and in the "better" lot.

I don't know if this would "prevent" this, but, the next time you're at the movies, try to be the first one to the door. Jiggle the handle and act as though it's locked, and then just stand there. How big of a crowd will gather until someone else tries another door?

And to think that I didn't even know about this test!

Wow, I am honored. Will I even be able to join you guys when we move back to Glendale?

Last time this sort of thing happened was when they accepted me into their eating club at college. They said "welcome aboard", and didn't even know they were punning, "board" being the English word for foor (like in room and board).

But tell me thruthfully, was it the parking or the kicking that was the "correct" response?

"so I parked the Audi at the farthest-most slot, with tens of empty space closer to the entrance. And when I came out of the store, found a minivan parked right next to me".

This is a common thing when people see a lonely car in a crowded parking lot , I think they do it because his/her car will be safe also. And also to the fact that if there is a nicer car near mine it will be more attractive to by vandalized than a "normal" car. I guess that most of the people thinks this way .

If I saw a solitary porsche in a parking lot, I would park my minivan next to it to save it from errant grocery carts. Also I would expect someone with the sense to drive a Porsche would be less likely to ding my minivan. And yes I do drive a minivan.

I always park at the back of a parking lot, as far away from other cars as possible, whether I'm driving the F150 or the Porsche. I also try to enter and leave all parking lots from the back, so I don't have to drive past the front of the store.

I hate "perfect parkers"--people who will hold up an entire aisle as they creep down, following someone to their car, waiting for them to load up groceries or what not, and then waiting for them to pull from their space so that they can get it. My goal is to get in and out of a store as soon as possible, so I try to avoid people who will hold me up. It is actually much quicker to walk to a store from a distance than to try to pull in or out of a space close to a store.

Imagine how you'd feel if "once" one guy kicked the door in of your Porsche? You have very little grounds to complain.

I almost always park as close to the front of the lot as I can. Thise gives me the added protection of being able to just step out and see exactly what is up with my car. I also try to park next to nice looking cars, as the owners probably car about them, and are as not likely to dammage my own. I will admit though, the time I parked next to the Ferrari 430, I left an empty spot between us.

I have never ever gotten any sort of door ding or scratch on my Porsche in the entire time I've owned it

Nope. Imagine if ever car owner did the exact same thing once to an unharmed car? As there are more cars then owners, not every car in the US would be kicked in, but a good deal of them would be. I'd be chrushed if I found someone had kicked in a body panel of my car.

You have deliberately destroyed someone else's car, are seeking sympathy for someone parking next to you? I suggest a major life turn around.

You also cannot forget that perhaps the person realy enjoys Porsche's. IF they where consiencious, then they just protected your car by parking next to it. I know several guys who can't afford one, but love them. I wave to any Porsche driver I see and am able to.

Maybe the minivan owner values it as much as you value your Porsche.
Hard to see from our angle, but some poeple just value what they have even if it's not everyone's ideal vehicle.

I go out of the way to avoid parking around other cars. I always park centered in the stall, not double parked (we all know those cars are the ones vandalized!)

Happens all the time - an entire empty lot, I choose a remote corner further away from the entrance the building, and some co-dependent idiot or two always has to park right next to me. Most blatant was last summer - the parking lot was literally empty, and I was at the far corner of the building, I come out, and there's a damn Lexus SUV on one side, and a minivan on the other.

My buddy who took a seperate car was laughing his ass off. I really think it's co-dependency which causes it. Even their cars have to have company.

I'd never kick another vehicle, unless I was dinged or scuffed

I know. I'm psychotic. Kind of happens when you have a $10k paint job and not a single scratch on the car. Sue me.

Sounds like Andras may be a ninja:
Quote:
From www.realultimatepower.net
Ninjas can kill anyone they want! Ninjas cut off heads ALL the time and don't even think twice about it. These guys are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time. I heard that there was this ninja who was eating at a diner. And when some dude dropped a spoon the ninja killed the whole town. My friend Mark said that he saw a ninja totally uppercut some kid just because the kid opened a window.

In all seriousness, Andras - I think you may be over reacting. Just a bit. Could be that the minivan owner wanted to check out your Audi - perhaps she was considering it as her next car. Perhaps she was an Audi enthusiast. Perhaps she didn't want her minivan all dinged up either. Or, maybe she parked there just becuase.

Kicking someone's truck's door just because they parked next to you is not only foolish, but also a crime. And if said truck is owned by "Big Bubba" who can bench press you AND your Audi all day long, kicking his door can be a very big mistake!

Now on a side note: something that I don't get are folks who take up two spots when parking to ensure their car doesn't get dinged. Even if said car is across the lot with no other cars around, such an action will likely attract those types of folks who will key a car "just because."

And that's why I drive a 10 year old Subaru that has more dings on the doors than the guy they used to call "crater face" in high school...
