Sad. Rough second half that guy had, but the first half of his life was huge. And influential.

Really, really sad the way that man had to suffer for his demons. God he was great, though. He actually had a super-tough early life I think, then huge success of course, then tough again.

His pain was what made him so brilliant, he turned it into lemonade.

Well said. I grew up about 10 minutes from the brothel he grew up in; by my time a restored Victorian in a resurgant neighborhood on the edge of downtown Peoria. I rememeber riding over on my bike to watch all the hollywood commotion while he was filming on site for "JoJo Dancer". Always heard how genuine and down to earth he was whenever people would encounter him (I believe his son still lives in Peoria).

I was pretty shocked by the news. I agree about the second half of his life. He deserved better....MUCH better...

Every successful comic (last 25 years) that does stand-up owes their entire career to Richard. His timing, inflection and the way he 'stalked' the stage was a lesson to all in how to do stand-up.

There will be no other as great......................IMO
