Kaisen bashing: do you know me?

Ditto for the 996 engines eating themselves alive. Yes, I have heard of people who have had failed engines (just like people used to have chain tensioners fail). But, they are few and far between.

Unless kaisen works at a Porsche repair facility, I have no idea how he can substantiate his claims.

Hmmmmm..... thanks guys! SmileWavy

I like Pelican. In fact, it is the only automotive forum that isn't clogged with pimple faced teenager wannabes posturing about their dad's rides or their pimped out ricer. I usually find Pelicans to be polite and informed. If Tabs and Mulholland are the worst instigators among us, then I feel safe here. I really do like it here.

That said, there is always a marque elitism that pervades a marque forum (Porsche here, BMW to some extent). That's why we are here. But there are often misconceptions about other marques that are interesting to discuss. Perhaps discussion will dissolve some myths. We are ALL automotive enthusiasts. At least that's the way I feel.

If you knew me, perhaps you'd see my perspectives from a different, er, perspective.

Here's a brief overview of Kaisen:

I'm a thirty-something, divorced white male living happily in the Midwest. Father of two adorable boys. Formed my love of all things automotive at a VERY young age, and it never escaped me.

I've spent my adult life in the automotive industry, mostly in management. I've worked with Ford, VW, Mitsubishi, Audi, Honda, Chevrolet, Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Jeep, Isuzu, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Cadillac, Hummer, Buick, and Saturn. I've been around almost every 'normal' car sold in the U.S.

I'm sure there have been more, but...

Company cars have been everything from Ford Escorts (my first) to Escalades, Hummers, Impalas, Corvettes, Town & Country minivans, Ford F150's, Mazda Miatas and 6's, Buick Park Aves, Saturn VUEs, VW Jettas and Passats, Mercedes CLK's, etc, etc.

Sooooooo.....

I've learned that there are all kinds of good cars and bad cars. I drive about 50,000 miles every year, and my (ex) wife drove 30,000. We wore cars out. Lots of experience.

I've raced cars on different types of tracks, mostly for fun or business, never for a championship.

My opinions on cars are formed from lots of different information, just like you. Magazines, internet articles and forums, owners, dealers, engineers, and lots of personal experience.

I frequent other forums too. If someone is bashing Porsche, I set it straight. If someone is bashing Ferrari, I do the same. Same with ANY marque. They all have there good and bad. Most often, any good and bad is well documented. We love what we love and I understand.

I'd be happy to back up things I say on this (or any) forum. There are times when I'm wrong. I think it's funny when I do produce facts and people chastise me for cut-and-pasting or googling. I thought quoting sources was the point of backing up opinion.

Anyway, enough about me. At least now you know a bit more.

Thanks for taking the time to read this rant.

Kaisen sux. :)

BTW - I know a guy who owns an 02 Boxster and the other day the engine grenaded for NO REASON.. I'm trying to get him to let me take pics of the carnage.

And for proof of the problems with watercooled all you need to do is go to rennlist.com - the RMS club!

Wow. A manager. Any chance you can get me a job in the auto industry? I'm sick of Hollywood!:D

onewhippedpuppy 12-13-2005 09:21 AM

Whoever said that arguing on the internet is like yelling in space was quite wise.

I wasn't trying to make it personal, as I'm sure you're a nice guy. I was commenting on your recent anti-foreign car stand on several threads. My comments were more a reflection of your opinions stated, and as we all know, opinions are like *********s.....:)

Be it the '74-'77 911s with thermal reactors or M60 Nikasil BMW engines, often times cars that have problems get a stigma attached to them, even though they are otherwise quality cars. It's a pet peeve of mine, so the 996 stuff kind of set me off. I know that some 996 owners have experienced failures, but I don't think it's a good reason to avoid ALL 996s, just cause for caution. Nothing personal, sorry if I struck you the wrong way.

Do I win the pool? :)

RANDY P 12-13-2005 09:35 AM

when you first get here, if no one answers or you get a percieved rude response it feels personal.

At about 700 posts you stop caring. You're exhibiting rookie symptoms now - I say that since we've all been there......

I can help you out on a couple of them. Here's my old 1968 280SE. Fantastic car, I bought it in Switzerland, put it on a boat, and drove it all over the US of A until it became my second, then third, then fourth car. Finally parted ways after 20 years :(

You guys are rude and ignorant, and your mommy dresses you funny.

If brains were gasoline, you guys couldn't come up with enough to power a pissant's motorcycle half way around the inside of a Cheerio.

If I understood any of that I'd be inclined to take offense.
