Spare me the swill sport...

The holidays. When guest stop by with bottles of wine as a gift. Ah yes, nothing say "Happy Holidays" like a $3 bottle of camel piss that you got at Costco. WTF? For crying out loud, you don't have to break the bank, but you couldn't spring for a serviceable bottle? $12 would have broken the bank?

Head of my wifes department (Anesthesia) stops by with a bottle of......*shudder*....white zinfandel that he must have bought at 7-11. The bastard drives a Mercedes 500!!!

Yeah, I'm being a wine snob, but if people are going to bring that crap, can you just get us some candy instead...?

When we give a gift of wine, we always make sure it is from Mondavi.

Three buck Chuck from Trader Joe's.

I don't know **** about wine so I let others choose what to bring and I just pay for it.

You're not being a snob. You make an excellent point. If your budget is small, great quality candy or a basket of fruit is a great gift. Poor quality gifts are always in bad taste.

It's easy to find a $5 gift that doesn't offend.

I'm probably on a lower budget than most of you however I can scrape together enough for good bottle of champaign. I particularly like the French stuff with the orange label, and a bottle of Cook's for mimosa's.

Two buck Chuck isn't bad, I haven't had any in awhile and I heard it's quality has gone down.

Cracks me up when I show up at a party with some zinfandel and people are amazed... "I didn't know zinfandel came as a red wine!"

Sterling, Gurnoc (sp), Esansia, BV, there is a bunch of good wine out there for $10-15.

My wife is the wine drinker, I prefer the beer and hard liqour.

When I do have wine, it has to be sweet. I don't like the dry stuff. Dessert wines are best...Moscato D'oro...Tawny Port...etc...

I think Maker's Mark puts green wax on top of their red wax around this time of year. Can't ever go wrong with that.

just reserve the cheap stuff for deglazing the pan.

i like to think some folks just dont know. i thru a standing rib roast party once. one guy, some dickhead, showed up as another guy's guest. not only did he eat like a starving college student, flirt with my girlfriend, he brought a bottle of twobuckchuck. then he found my scotch supply and drained half my bottle of JWblack. i should have made him drink his own schit. btw, the friend that brought him, brought two dozen crispycreme donuts, which nobody ate. he took them when he left. jen doenst understand when i say this guy is not on my list of friends.

My best friend just gave me a bottle of Blue Ice potato vodka from Idaho. i had mentioned to him that I wanted to try it and he drove to Toledo, OH (60 miles from us) to get it since it isn't distributed to MI. I haven't had the time to try it yet...

I buy from here. A bottle will run you from $12-$25, you get to personalize the label. I have always recieved the best compliments from this gift from my clients and friends. Yes, it takes a little planning and thought but the effect is amazing.
