Skiing in Durango?
I'm thinking of going to Durango for the Snowdown festival this year. Anyone have any comments about the town and ski area?
|
Nope, but now I understand where they got the car model name from. Dodge, was it ?

Maybe I should have made the topic more descriptive. :)

Have heard good things about it. Was in the area years ago but not recently. Always loved Colorado...

Durango's ski resort is called Purgatory. Its a decent place, but no Vail (what is?). I know new mexico has gotten skunked on snow so far this year, dont know about southern CO.
Durango as a town kicks ass in my opinion. Great place to go winter or summer. You also have other skiing within daytrip distance driving. Telluride is quite a unique little town or hit the hot springs in Ouray. |
Yeah, I was just in Norther AZ last week and they hadn't had any measureable precip. since Oct 18th, apparently. Southern CO is a few hours from Flagstaff, but who knows? I wouldn't be going until the end of january, but it would suck to book a trip and have there be no snow!

Does the old narrow stream train still run from Durango to Silverton? That is a neat ride. Try it if you go, and it's running.

Purgatory is not in good shape this year...
As of this morning Base 19-21" 20% open with 13 trails That is the worst here in CO which the rest of the state is having the best snow in over 20 years. Mid season conditions at Vail and Copper Mtn...88% to 100% open. |
