OMAHA, Neb. -- Police identified the tobacco store employee shot Tuesday as Sham Journey, 24.

Police are looking for the person who shot a tobacco store employee Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a robber entered Hamilton Outlet Tobacco store near 41st and Hamilton streets at about 1:30 p.m. A robber went into the store and tried to rob it. Witnesses told KETV NewsWatch 7 that a man came running out of the store with employees on his heels.

"Employees of the store, more than one, followed the suspect out of the store, gunshots are fired outside the business, and one of the employees of the store is shot and has died," said Sgt. Teresa Negron, of the Omaha Police Department.


Journey was one of the employees that went after the robber, police said. Police said Wednesday that one of the store employees fired a gun.

The robber is described as a black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a red bandana. There was a white vehicle seen leaving the area and investigators want to know if, or how the vehicle may have been involved.

The incident was not the first time Hamilton Outlet Tobacco has been robbed. In October, an 18-year-old walked in to the store in the middle of day, put a gun in the face of the clerk and demanded money, officials said.

Tuesday, the situation played out nearly the same, except this time, the employee ran after the robber.

Some neighbors described the people that work at the store as very friendly.

Some local residents are frustrated by this kind of violence in their neighborhood.

"We are trying to get this neighborhood cleaned up. The church is doing a lot and the tobacco store, we are all trying to clean this mess up," said resident Lisa Brown.

The storeowner ran down the street after the robber. He ran out of his store after this guy shooting, like some kind of gunfight.

The storeowner put his arm around a corner and just started shooting blind.

Some witnesses are saying that the owner shot his own employee.

There were freaking KIDS in the area and I thank god none of them got hit as well.

Shooting at him down the street is dangerous.
