If you want to do PCA track events, you have to be a member. The 15% discount on dealer parts and labor comes in handy once in a great while too.

I think they're running a multi-wacko discount this month
![]() (and I'm pretty sure I called you a fruitcake, if you want to be technical about it) Seriously. If you enjoy or want to enjoy track events, membership is a must. But remember, you can add an affiliate member for another $5 bucks I think, the only thing is they will not get the magazine. But otherwise full privileges. So maybe a low cost alternative for your dad or bro in law My local chapter also some decent tech events too, usually at a local shop. But you cant bring guns, so maybe not for you ![]()

FYI, a friend and me split up PCA and BMWCCA memberships, I'm an affiliate on his PCA and he is an affiliate on my BMWCCA, so we get a pretty big range of events between them.

I don't even like fruitcake, though a discount on parts would be handy during a restoration, dear old Dad spent about $15K on his convertible, and that was with no drivetrain work at all, just paint, interior, and new rubber.
I would like to get mine to where it would be track-worthy, but my bro-in-laws '85 Carrera coupe would be a better candidate, it is too nice though. Oh how I wish I was shopping for a car in Silicon Valley during the late '80's. He got such a screaming deal on that car. You may find this shocking, but I do not even own a firearm personally, though the wife has a few. Don't remember any fruitcake calling, and I will admit that "crazy", "whacko" and "nut were not used together, but were in the same thread.

No such thing as a Porsche "too nice" for the track ... IMHO
So you are not interested in an affiliate membership in the Fruitcake-of-the Month Club? ![]()

Who gives a PCA discount on parts, other than the stealer? I used my 'coupon' to get a set of 993 mirrors a couple years ago. Lots of 'backordered' 'NLA' 'mis-shipped' crap. When the dust had settled, it was apparent that stealer had hiked the price of the mirrors to absorb the coupon. After that little incident, I'd had enough of PCA and PCNA.

I don't go to the stealer unless I need a stealer-only part or have to have something immediately on a Sat. It does happen occasionally.

Tobra - where are you located? Some regions are great while others are wine-n-cheezers.

now thats just being plain ugly...as ex-editor of Slipstream I wish I could take exception! Truth be known I really don't care.
Actually, they have TT's and AutoX's every month as well as DE's. PCA has told us that we have the most active racing region in the country. They also do happy hours and various tours every month as well. If I was I had more time and more money I would get real involved.

I've only been able to make it to a couple events in my region in the last year. I work a funky schedule, and it seems any activities are all on weekends I work. The couple events I made it to were fun, but most of the people there were really stand-offish.
The 944 owners thought my 968 was neat, and I had good technical discussions with them, but all in all it seemed awfully closed to new members. Bottom line, I didn't renew my membership after one year because there didn't seem to be any real benefit. Maybe when (if) my schedule resembles a regular job I will give it another go, but it just didn't seem worth it. BTW: Small region in the Pacific Northwest. Maybe I will try another group sometime. The Seattle region seems to have more going on with it.

It's not enough to join that I think makes it a big decision. Sure it has its problems, but worth the minimal amount anyway.

Join for a year and get involved in some driving events, social events and make some friends. If you don't enjoy it, don't rejoin. Its only $40 or whatever PCNA dues are now. Each region is different and it will become as fun as you want it to be based on your level of involvement.
