one thing that is a pleasure to watch at least is how the Packers are putting in a ton of extra effort on every play. quite refreshing. it makes you wonder why their season is as bad as it is

My bitter hatred for the Packers caused me to find this juicy tidbit... HOUSTON (Jan. 26, 2005) -- Charles Martin, the former Green Bay defensive end who body-slammed Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon into the turf and ended his season in 1986, has died. He was 46. Martin, who played for the Packers, Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons during his five-year NFL career, died Jan. 23 at Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston, a hospital spokesman said. "He probably died from complications of his renal (kidney Steroids ) disease," Dr. Charles Aramburo, Martin's surgeon, told Houston television station KRIV on Jan. 25. "We are still waiting for the results from the autopsy, which will be definitive." In 1986, Martin drove McMahon into the ground after the quarterback had thrown a pass. EDIT: WAAAAAAYYY AFTER THE PLAY WAS DEAD. McMahon was out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Martin was wearing a towel with the numbers of Bears' players on it during the game. McMahon's No. 9 was at the top of the list. Martin was ejected for a flagrant late hit and suspended for two games. Martin played for the Packers from 1984-87. He also played for the Oilers in 1987 and the Falcons in 1988. He began his pro football career with the USFL Birmingham Stallions in 1983. f the pack. that was one of the cheapest shots in the history of the game. those pu$$ies were just pissed cause ditka ran up the score. the saddest part of this are the little kids running around in chicago with packers jackets on because their parents didn't teach them right from wrong. just because the bears have sucked for the last 20 years does not make it ok for your kid to wear green and gold. God Bless Ditka and Walter and Otis and Wilbur and Gary and Butthead and even little Mikey Tomzak. Oh, and f the pack. -bernie

To hold a grudge over something that happened so long ago, by a ONE player who was hardly a Green Bay lifer, and goes unremembered by most everyone, and missed by no one, is a pathetic excuse for just wanting to hate the rival team. Brett Favre is a fine individual who has contributed to the sport immensly. I'm quite sure Ditka and McMahon would both agree with that and also my opening sentiment. Get over it!

ok, maybe my comment was over the top... just a bit.the last 20 years have made me very bitter. favre is a freaking football god. its undeniable. the packers are an amazing organization to be able to keep that team there through all these years. now with the revenue sharing and parity rules, its a bit easier... but i can't deny that they have had an amazing history and a phenomenal run over the last 15 years. my beloved bears on the other hand? For several decades have been in the hands of the incompetent "in law" children of a once great family run business. What did they do after the '85 season? got tight with money and let key players go, essentially nudged payton out while still productive and eventually turned their back on ditka just to spite him. As for Charles Martin? he was one of several players with 'hit lists' that year. Hell, the bears did it too... but not like Martin did. I compare it to Romanowski's bragging about how he would try to break guys fingers in pile ups. Of course McMahon respected the pack... he played for them... ![]() I wish you luck in the coming years... a good rivalry involves 2 strong teams. we havent lived up to that parrt of the bargain for a long time. -bernie
