OT: Need help identifying this Ducati

Hi guys,

I know this is way OT, but I didn't know who else to ask. This old bike is actually sitting in the garage I rent for the p-car.

I know next to nothing about motorcycles, and the only reason this one caught my eye is because it is a Ducati, or at least the decal says so.

I was hoping someone could ID it for me, and maybe give me a ballpark price for it. I don't think the owner is really that attached to it, and I was thinking of buying it just as a little project.

thanks

Steve,

Thanks for the tip. If you tell me where to find the VIN# on the bike, I can get it next time I'm over there.

Might want to go over to http://www.ducatimeccanica.com/ and see if you can find it there. Otherwise, just send the jpeg to Rene Waters who runs the site. Someone there will be able to identify it. My expertise is limited to Laverda Triples, and some later Ducati desmo's, not the bevels. You could also try http://www.eurospares.com/other.htm run by Michael Moore for an incredible amount of information and archive photos. No doubt, this one will be there.

Roger,

Thanks for the info. I checked out that first site and found some very similar bikes. I think I'll take your advice and send the pic to Rene.

So what is "desmo"? Is that a type of Ducati engine?

roger911s 07-03-2001 08:59 AM

Looks like a 250, possibly a Mark 3, built 1963-67. Interesting.

sander 07-03-2001 09:02 AM

Yeah, actually that was what it looked closest to in the picture gallery...

Lots of desmo info on net. Too Too OT here. Briefly, Ducati's fall into two camps the bevel drive (classic) and the belt drive (modern bikes) using Ducati's unique desmodronic valve arrangement.
