anyone painted concrete INSIDE their house.
I remember a guy I worked with painted the concrete inside his house and it looked really good. I have stained some concrete (lots of oil
![]() his had a real "paint" look to it kind of like it had been tiled. anyone have pics of what they did. need some ideas. I kind of have an idea in my head but don't know how to do it. I am envisioning something like a 2 tone look. maybe one color underneath and another color maybe done like streaks. kind of like if you mixed 2 colors together but they were not completely mixed in, just partially stirred.

Garage, basement, or living area?

I've done two basements with Drylock, does that count?

Concrete is porous. If the area to be painted is below ground level, and the outside is not properly water-proofed, paint may start bubbling off the surface when moisture seeps in.
A test: Tape a square of plastic to the surface to be painted, with all edges sealed tight. After a day or two, see if there is any dampness under the plastic. If so, there will be adhesion issues. |

Even if the area under the plastic is just slightly darker, that is moisture travelling through the concrete, which normally evaporates once inside. Sealing it up with paint will have moisture build up behind the paint until paint failure.

I wouldn't put paint down in a high traffic area.

Hard to envision concrete in a kitchen.
Do you live in a cave? ![]()

Ive been in several businesses with stained concrete and think it looks great. I think it would be nice in a home if it suites the theme of the rest of the house.
I was in public bathroom a few weeks ago that had a seemingly epoxy looking coating on the floor. It resembled a nicely done shop floor but was perfectly leveled and had a much finer texture than is typical for shops and garages. I thought it looked quite nice.

Lots of interesting epoxy finishes out there if you don't want to go the carpet/tile/wood/laminate route.
Just do a web image/video search for "concrete acid stain" and/or "concrete metallic marble" to get some ideas. ![]() |

I saw an office that had an acid washed / stained concrete floor. It was really nice looking, even with cracks and defects.

I had a customer who made really high end speakers,£25000 a pair, that had concrete cabinets which were painted to a very high gloss finish by a car body shop. Of course there was no rising damp issue unlike with a house wall

We are staining some exterior 'cultured' stone, see pic below. Stain on right side, original color on left. H&C Stain, available locally at Sherwin Williams dealers. https://www.hcconcrete.com/
Tried some of the stain on a basement and garage floor, but it doesn't absorb. Quick test see if water soaks in or beads up. If it beads up, you likely have to grind it first. ![]()

you can also use an 'acid etch' - they should sell it where they sell the stain
I did that on my exterior concrete stem wall - looks great even 15 years later |
