Cool Car movies and "The Fast and the Furious"

Anybody see this movie? I saw it last weekend, and it was better than I expected. Unfortunately, I didn't see any Porsches in the movie, but lots of 'riced out' Honduhs. Still, the production was done well, and the cimenatography was great. It actually had somewhat of a plot too! I am afraid that this movie will encourage more street racing and reckless driving.

Anyway, question about car movies: what's your favorite? Or what's your favorite car scene in a movie? (For movie's with Porsches in it, refer to Obin's webpage:
http://obin_jess.tripod.com/porschemovies.html.

My favorites are:
1. LeMans
2. Bullit (The movie that defined car chase scenes!)
3. Days of Thunder (although I'm not a NASCAR fan...)
4. Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry
5. James Bond movies (they all have some fun with cars!)

-Z-man.

PS: Thanks for the new forum, Wayne!

I think Ronin had some great scenes in it.

Driven was probably the biggest dissapointment I've ever had in anything car related. However I still liked watching a movie about cars more than anything else.

Fast&the furious seemed like another sellout, but not as bad as I'd expect (don't get me wrong, still pretty bad). I don't understand the concept of an integra racing against a supra turbo, and being close. Also, what's up with all the decals and other crap?

Did anyone else notice that the plot/story line for the fast and the furious was EXACTLY the same as Point Break, but with cars instead of surfboards, robbing trucks instead of banks. Even the endings were close to identical. Only difference I saw was that the one guy with the RX-7 didn't kidnap his little sister, tie her up, threaten to kill her, and send a videotape if the other guy with the eclipse/supra didn't do the big race thing/rob trucks with him. Otherwise, identical. Crazyness. Overall, I was well entertained, and the movie reminded me of V street in DC and all the same kind of stuff that happens there. So what do you all think?

OK

I was told, or heard somewhere one time, that ANY movie, if it is to be successful, must have three main elements:

1. Rebellion against authority.

2. Destruction of property.

3. Gratuitous sex.

Plot, character, motivation are, at best, optional. Who was it that said "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public"?

One of my favorite car movies is The Great Race. Ever see it?

That sounds like a Full Metal Jacket quote, just changed a little. Good stuff!

Is it me or was the ending a lil bit wack? I mean for only being a German car fan I actually sat through a movie about rice burners and only criticized their continuous use of Nitrous Oxide. Is the world focused on cheater bottles or something????

Anyone seen "No Man's Land" with Charlie Sheen where they rip off Porsches? The plot kinda relates to taht movie to where loyalty is put to the test. At least theres nothing but Porsches Porsches and more Porsches!

You can by it at Amazon.com for like 8 dollars only on VHS

This was the "Fastest" waste of money that I have every witnessed. And I was "Furious" after leaving the theater. I felt as though I had wasted two hours of my life that I will never get back. What a joke! Nitrous tanks that explode and blow up an entire car! What planet was this movie filmed on? I wish I could make flames shoot out the back of my 944!

Couple things:

1) Nitrous is stored in the bottles as a liquid, much like propane. When heated, for example in a burning car, they produce an incredible amount of pressure. more than enough to blow up a car. As a matter of fact There have been several real world examples posted on this board of car being blow to peices cause some idiot jammed his pressure relief valve closed.

2) if you really want fire to shoot out of your exhaust first thing you have to do i pull you cat and your muffler. Then install a high lift, high overlap cam. Then richen the fuel mixture. Slam on the gas, when you back off the throttle the throttle plates will close. richening the mixture. the long overlap will cause fuel/air mixture to move into the exhaust system when it will burn, and voila, fire out of the exhaust tips.

About the movie. Personally i thought some of the cars where a bit much. But it was a protrayal, albiet a hollywood version, of a Ricer culture that does exist.

Don't think thats entirely accurate. According to the warning label on my NOS can (sniper 150 kit) the heat required to bow the seals and valve could not be generated by a car fire. From the temp warning on the label you would have to have this tank sitting in a pool of burning jet fuel for a few days first. Even then 15 lbs of nitrous would not blow a car off the ground like that. It's Hollywood! As for the flames out the back I read that it was added in later inpost production.

Nitro (also known as 'Nitrous', or 'NOS') is used for Nitrous Oxide as far as I know.

i saw that movie last night. it was not as bad as people were saying it was. no, it's not an epic piece of filmmaking... it's just a lot of cool car chases and action. there was a really cool part where they "shut down" a snob in a Ferrari.

Roland:
NOS sind der Name auf das Stickstoff-Monoxid Hersteller. wie Kleenex ist der Firmaname mit dem Produkt synonym.

Hello

Nitrous oxide is a gas known as laughter gas and kills more people by filling up the bottles then they explode. NO´x is as far I know not a explosive but it will speed up explosions.

Nitromethan is a fuelmixture that can get very explosive and that is sometimse to see when top fueler burst off there compressors or heads. The highest risk on that fuel is that it burns unvisible. It has a much lower risk to explode and thats why the Cart, Nascar or what ever uses them.

Nitroglcerine is a high explosive and can send you into a satelie position.

If you go into a shop in germany and say "1L nitro please" you will get paint thinner.

Hello

A tip for all flame throwers:

Get a pld cold EFI start Valve and place it inside your exhaust rear tip. Get a fuel heater glow plug.

Make some nice wirelooms and set it up that the glowplug ( Diesel plug will work to but needs longer to heat ) and the valve works togehter. Make the timedlay working to calculate the flamelenght.
Set it up with a throttle body switch and use a ECU that calculates the rev drop and the blown out exhaust gas volume.

Pack it all in a nice present Box for the ricers. Now after turbo shift noise the turbo shift flame for the real fake.

Share the average 15% inventor apanage.

Don´t use the full throttle ignition off ignition on methode. I had seen heatexchangers and the muffler from a 911 blown like hot sausages and the worst was some studs were torn out from the heads with some exhaust port on it.

Grüsse
