Ahh, the old stingray... brings back memories. You need to chop it, install a longer front fork, and add a sissy bar in back... I'm guessing it might be worth $100.

Mine too! I wanted one so bad then I took the only color they had left at the Schwinn dealer. It had been there for a month, no takers. Was Purple. 6 months later, was the HOT color. As usual, I was ahead of my time.

Anytime I want to get an idea of the value of something, I check eBay.

Yep, a sweet ride Aways is pretty close on the $$$, it is a Krates & early Stingrays that bring big bucks, later ones just don't appeal (many more of them) to many (unless you are a nut like me who just loves bikes ) or had one as a kid. It would be worth more restored and a saw a blue one at the Turkey Rod Run swap meet, same year, very clean sell for $40, but I thought that was cheap and I didn't get my cash out fast enough. Are you thinking about parting with it?? If so, are you open to trades?? Just a warning, if you do part with it, you may regret it later.

I had an orange one with an orange banana seat (with purple and white insert if I remember correctly) that I got in 1976. A year later (for my birthday - so April 1977) I installed a springer 'MX' two-person seat and installed knobbies! Great minds think alike?

I had a bike similar to that (maybe the same thing). Got it secondhand as a kid in probably 78-79. (how old are you when you learn to ride). I learned to ride in the aley behind my Grandparent's Philly townhome. I didn't know anything about bikes; I was like 6. No training wheels. Little did I know, the coaster brakes weren't hooked up properly. You know that little "ear" that's supposed to be fixed to the frame. It wasn't. I learned to stop by either dragging my feet or crashing along side this concrete wall in the alley way.

I take a similar approach to DEs.

Hmmm... I'm forty eight... that would be when I was around twelve or fourteen... so around 1970... did I mention that this bike was a hand me down from my older brother?

And no... I don't still have it.

I got a Stingray new when I was 10. I think they had just came out with them. It was about 1962/63. And if I'm not mistaken it cost $60.
Ya Buddy.... Ape hangers and a banana seat. That was a big deal in the neighborhood back then.

God being sick sucks. I've been immobile with the nasties since I posted this originally... Garage is supposed to get cleaned so I can get the 356 in there this weekend - lungs willing. You'll have to negotiate with the 5 y/o daughter on the jeep - don't think she's interested though. Racerbvd - I'll send you a PM - since we are close (I'm in gainesville) maybe we could work some sort of trade...
