As a film, WOTW really, really sucks. But as a subwoofer demo movie, it is the best thing ever made. According to some people who have done frequency analysis of the soundtrack, the lightning bolts sequence has some stuff under 10 Hz at very high volume. The sequence where the tripod comes out from under the street is simply incredible with a decent subwoofer (I have a Hsu VTF-3 MkII).

In Mars attack, Warner Bros. bought the rights to film the demolition of the Landmark Hotel in Las Vegas, and then dropped in space ships blasting it. I was at the Landmark when they dropped it, boy was that great.

As I posted earlier, the DTS LFE track is incredible. I have a Sony ES DVD thru Monster fiber optic to Sony ES receiver then Monstercable Z sub cables to (2) 15" Definitive Supercubes at 1000 Watts each. Even at low volumes the room shakes and the amps draw enough current to dim the lights. Awesome sound engineering in WOTW.

Agreed. To appreciate this movie you neeed a quality sound/subwoofer system. Forget about the "watching" experience and concentrate on the sound/subwoof feel of the experience. Many people have become accustomed to isolating just their visual experience and are just "watching" a movie. If you are only watching, its a crappy movie.(IMHO)

Makes me wish I hadn't sold off all of my home theatre stuff to pay for my honeymoon.:( At least then I would have enjoyed one aspect of the movie. 10 Hz is crazy low, if you have a subwoofer that can replicate that, wow. The brown note perhaps?;)

It's just part of the schizoid personality of Spielberg. Half of the films he makes are extremely well thought out, with good story and acting (e.g. Pvt. Ryan). The other half are these utterly ridiculous films with massive special effects, no plot, terrible dialog, continuity problems, etc. Funny thing is, it doesn't matter from what I can tell - they all make money.
