Crash--the movie

Any of you guys see this movie?
I have been off work for the holidays so we had time after junior went to sleep to check out a couple movies. I really enjoyed this one. It really made me think about racism and what others think about it in their own way. I don't watch many movies that don't have cars or comedians so I was surprised that I like it.:p

EDIT: It was 4 bucks through our cable "on demand" . I 'm too cheap to go out to the movies. The wife is cool with that, too.

I loved it. Seen it twice now. I'm not a big movie guy.

Best movie of 2005. Unless "Cityof God" came out in '05 as well... then it would be a close tie... although City of God was a little too violent for me... so yeah... Crash wins.

Interesting...., I thought that it was extremely weak. Hugely disappointed. And just about everyone in it is either an actor whose work I admire or a friend of mine. (Or both). I've seen better work in acting classes or beginning writer's workshops.

I felt rather distressed after watching Crash. I can just go back to my hometown and sit on a corner to see all that kinda crap going on. Thats why I left

What movies do you like from '05--name drop if you'd like.

I liked the plot and character development. Didn't notice the acting. I'd recommend it.

Even though they pushed the plot lines a little past plausibility, I did enjoy the movie, and I think it raised some very valid points.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I felt it was a little heavy on the preachy side.

David, is this response coming from the LA cop or the citizen David?
No offense intended. they didn't exactly portray the LAPD as a great police force. My view here in Michigan is, I'm sure, very different from yours out in the streets.

David

+1

I was prepared to like it, but was quite disappointed.

Sometimes it is difficult to separate the cop from citizen, but I think it was too sterotypical. I hate the broad brushing that was done and saw it as extremely exaggerated. As far as the depiction of the cops, it goes against everything I believe in. To see a cop, even in a movie, abuse people in such an extreme manner evoked strong emotions as I was even cussing at the TV while watching it. If I saw a cop, or even suspected as cop, behaving in that manner, I would have his a$$! We cops hate dirty cops more than the public. To effectively do our job, we have to have the trust of the communities that we serve. Without that, we are ineffective.

Thanks for the reply , David.
I appreciate your candor.
Thanks for doing what you do.:)

Crash sucked ass.

I really dont see what was so great about it. To me it was just recycled style that played the race card for shock value.

although I have to admit I loved the line, "Mom, I can't talk to you right now, OK? I'm having sex with a white woman."

On the other hand, a particular favorite is David Cronenberg's Crash. About people with a fetish for automobile accidents. It even has a 550 Spyder in it

My favorites this year...

The Machinist
Kung Fu Hustle
Hustle and Flow
Der Untergang (Downfall)
